Spending to much time at the boat landing?

How was your experience getting in and out of the water on opener. Were there some slow people? What time did everybody seem to get to the landings?

Hey G! Long time no see!

Both openers on the St Croix were…non issues. I launch at the Windmill Marina in Afton. It’s always an easy in and out there…except during the heat of the summer and holidays. 11 to 1 and 5 to 7 is a killer on those days!
Now that I think about it, on the WI opener I launched a 3 a.m. Not lots of traffic then!

I normally launch at a resort on Woman Lake but I launched at the puplic ramp prior to midnight Saturday because I didn’t wan’t to wake anyone up. The lake levels are so low, it is a dangerous ramp to operate from. Just beyond the washout from the power loading, the depth comes up to about a foot (or less, in places) deep. I am very familiar with the lake but felt bad for any unsuspecting anglers. If the DNR won’t fix that ramp, I wish they would at least put up an official warning sign. I got out on to the main lake with my electric motor.

My only frustration from launching came on Saturday afternoon at the Malmo publich launch. We were in 2ft of water with a 1 ft chop. Skag and prop got a few little character marks. I understand this is going to happen so it didn’t really even frustrate me. The lady from the DNR office who was coaching everyone on zebra mussels was frustrating. Instead of talking to the 20 trucks waiting to pull out boats, she talked to each boat as they came off the water. This really backed things up. I understand she was just doing her job. She probably could have went about it in a more efficient manner is all.

If that is my biggest frustration all year, I’ll have it made. The easiest way to ease most people’s frustration is to offer to help load/unload. Back a truck in for the guy by himself, etc….

I’ll grab a barley pop from time to time and whatch folks try to land their boats. Good, cheap entertainment.

Why would they give people a lesson about Zebra Mussels when there coming out of Mille Lacs?
You would think they would be doing that on the Mississippi!
Are there Zebra Mussels in Mille Lacs?

Or before they launch and contaminate the lake?

    That’s a good question. I don’t know.

    Crossin’,

That was your identical twin brother. I can just see him sitting between pinky and you in the boat.
