Anyone had any issues with dogs going down the Ice hole? I own a 20lb French bulldog…Think she will fall down the hole or its ok to bring her in a sleeper a house for the weekend…thoughts? Past experiences?

Depends what size holes were drilled. I assume you are renting. If the guide has 10″ holes there is a very good possibility that he will slip right down given the chance. 8″ probably not, but I wouldn’t want to try it. Anything smaller than 8″ and I would feel 100% comfortable.
I guess you could just cover up the holes when not in use and keep your eye on him… and try not to get too wasted.
Maybe a life jacket? Or how about some sort of washer to keep it from falling thru the hole
Have him/her wear a harness with a leash anchored to something. Or strap a babys life jacket to the dog so it couldn’t fit down the hole.
Neighbor lost his dog down the spear hole last year. Left it in the house to go tot he truck or something. Came back and it was on the bottom. Seems unlikely but it can happen.
She has a harness…I will leash that to a case of beer! Plus the lampshade and duck tape!
Nudge her towards the hole till she breaks then nudge her more she will get the drift, no pun intended, the whole is danger and avoid the wholes.
A leash is not a bad idea be something to grab if she does go in. Even the 50lb superline, less chance of snagging something put something on the end to prevent the line going though the hand.
Some ideas to think about.
Wow! That’s a good idea, where can I get one of those and what’s it called?
Not sure where the one in the picture came from, but Cabela’s carries one.
Reminds me of the guy that took his lab sturgeon fishing. They were sitting watching down the hole when a nice sturgeon swims into view. Before he can do anything the lab dives in after it and swims out view under water. The guy in the ice house next door is intently watching down his hole, when he see’s bulging eyeballs and big white teeth coming at him.The owner of the lab hears a lot of yelling and a big crash when the guy next door busts his own door down trying to get out before the big black monster gets him.The lab had dove in but came up the wrong hole.I read this in a outdoor life magazine when I was a teenager and lmao then just imagining it happening.
Oh Lord I apologize, but I’m glad I’m not the only one laughing.

The only reason our Springer didn’t go under (through a 10″ hole) is cause she is so broad in the chest. If we wouldn’t have been there some porr outdoorsman would have found her frozen to death with just her head and shoulders sticking up out of the ice.
cmquandt, don’t listen to them. Our friend has a couple French Bulldogs. Cool breed, very stout and muscular.
She had a 3rd, but he passed unexpectedly at a young age of spinal cancer. It was real quick too. Broke my heart because he was such a well behaved and loveable dog. Very even keeled with a great temperment.
