My dad went into the hospital on Friday night for emergency surgery. They removed 27 inches of his small intestine due to a tumor. They weren’t sure if it was cancerous but expected it was so took 16 lymph nodes as well. Results on the lymph nodes were positive for cancer on 10 of the 16. Not really what I was hoping to hear but not totally unexpected either. They haven’t told my dad yet and will do that sometime tomorrow. I don’t expect he will take it too well so not looking forward to that. I decided I better be there when the doctor discusses it with my parents so I can hear directly from the doctor what the real scoop is. I don’t trust that my mom always gets it right.

Wow, that does really suck to hear. But john i agree very much with you needing to be there. I’m dealing with a similar situation with my parents right now. There is a huge difference between what they say…and what the doctor says. Wish you and for family the very best. They’ll be in our prayers.

I have a mom like that…..she usually hears what she wants to hear, so with something as important as this, you are doing the right thing. Good luck…..

Sorry to hear about your dad. Your mind will be racing, and I suggest recording the conversation with the doctor. That way when there are three different versions of what they heard the doctor say, you can go back and listen to it again. Good luck

That DOES suck, sorry to hear it. I dealt with a similar situation the last 18 months or so. It’s not easy, but I agree, you gotta be there. We all know that you being there will make a huge difference and you’ll do what you can to make it as smooth as possible and to continue the fight.

    John,

I’m going through the same thing with my dad and mother right now, dad has lung cancer and mom had a tumor removed from her breast. Be at as many of the Dr. Appointments as you can.

Dad has been doing Chemo every 3 weeks since early September and has gotten better. They have shrunk the tumor and he is now on Steroids to improve his appetite. His cancer is terminal and it’s only a matter of time but I hope what he has left is as good as it can get.

I will keep you, and your family in my nightly prayers. There is a lot that they can do now so there is always hope.

Keep the faith and God Bless your family!!!
