We booked our trip to Mn for July. My father-in-law (Eyorre) is already complaining that he never catches fish in Mn. We normally fish SD and he catches enough to not be a huge pain in the neck. But his luck in the gopher state has been limited.

Please help me find a lake that can make him happy. We will be in the St Cloud area and am willing to drive 2 hours to get on fish. I prefer catch and release, but am open to whatever. Or if you know of a guide I could send him out with, that would be good too.

    Thanks.

Catch and Release, well, that sounds like it would be Mille Lacs.
I persoanlly would suggest Winnibigoshih, or Rainy lake but being as your wanting to be within a certainly driving distance then my pick/suggestion is going to be Mille Lacs.

What kind of fish are you after? Plenty of good lakes right around St. Cloud too. Koronis, Rice, Horshoe Chain, Big Birch, Osakis.
Mille Lacs is probably the easy choice though if you just want to go catch a bunch of 20-25 inchers. Blading or cranking deep that time of year.

I recall looking at Joe Scegura(think thats how its spelled) fishing report from the upper Mississippi river in that area. He looks like he could put you on some fun fishing action. Plus it is the river and that is always a change of pace if you are use to lakes. Go to the reports and bass and the article was Upper Miss. fall report or something like that. Good luck

Horseshoe chain of lakes is only 15-20 minutes from St. Cloud. Just about every species known to man in there.
Head over to the reports section of this site and scroll down to either Horseshoe or St. Cloud area lakes. You will get reports there and also all the info you will need. Your FIL will catch fish there. If he doesn’t just remind him his daughter came with no guarantees either.
