It’s a pretty easy answer to say either place. I guess size of boats come into play. LOTW on the American side is some big water and requires a decent boat. If I was going for big fish I would opt for the Canadian side of LOTW. That said Rainy would provide good Walleye fishing on the U.S side without the border crossing.

So for me……Big Pike and Muskie Canadian side of LOTW, quantity of Walleye LOTW. Numbers with a chance at large Walleye while staying in the states… Rainy.

The Missouri River is a great place to go if you have never been there. And I believe there are some pretty liberal limits right now if you want to bring fillets home.

If you don’t mind rustic and you have minimal 16′ deep V’s I can help you out with a trip to Lake Nipigon two hours north of Thunder Bay. Trophy Pike, Trophy Lakers, Trophy Brookies, Trophy Walleye. My wife and I are going mid June for 10 days…

Try Cedar Island Lodge on Pipestone Lake, Emo, Ontario.

    Cedar Island Lodge webpage

This is ideally located between Rainy Lake & Lake of the Woods, with 60+ miles of long narrow lakes up to 300′ deep to fish.

Trophy fishing in Northwestern Ontario’s premier fishing site! Pipestone Lake is known for excellent walleye, smallmouth and largemouth bass, northern, muskie and lake trout.

Just 50 miles from International Falls, MN, we are accessible by boat or plane. Most guests travel by vehicle to the secure parking area where they are met by our camp boat or launch their own. Enjoy a 17 mile scenic boat ride across a mechanical portage into peaceful Pipestone Lake.

Need not worry about weather knocking you off the lakes and very secluded.

They just reopened in 2011 and offer some unbelievable fishing 6 1/2 hours from Mpls.

PS: I am not associated with them, just know the experience available with a friends cabin just down the lake.

When LOTW blows, there are very few places you can get to and hide. My vote would be Rainy or Canada. Have you every fished Door County or Escanaba that time of year?

    Just a thought.

Jut read that you are from that side of the state. You are probably looking for a change in scenery.

Approx 9 1/2 Drive time from Appleton, WI to Clearwater Lake, then 1/2+/- hour by boat to Cedar Island Lodge.
