Police: 10-Year-Old Child Killed in Oakdale, MN Shooting

Police are investigating a shooting in Oakdale Monday evening that left a 10-year-old boy dead and two others injured.

Oakdale police say a man was randomly shooting at vehicles around the intersection of 7th Street and Hadley Avenue, which is about two blocks from a Rainbow Foods grocery store.

It seems unbelievable. I just did not think it would happen around here, guess I was wrong. No idea how you are supposed to protect yourself or loves ones anymore.

Wish I new why some people seem to want to take violence to others.

My heart goes out to the mom. I can not imagine the pain the heartache she is experiencing.
I sit here wanting to help but I don’t know how.

Another piece of innocence lost tonight.

Enough already. You want to start stopping this stuff. Run this guy through a trial real quick and then sentence him to be stoned to death in public.

I wish we could do it. Just once, that should be all it takes. These people don’t care if they are shot to death or go to jail. Suffering over a period of a couple days might make them think twice.

I agree we make life too easy for them in prison. One meal a day. One shower a week. Place should be hell on earth.

That’s where the lady parked. She ran into Rainbow to seek help.

Did society “evolve” or is it starting to “dissolve”?

Pug is on the right track. Tougher penalties but also zero media attention. Don’t list the perps name or show his / her photo. Take away the 15 seconds of fame they want.

I drove by that intersection about 10 minutes before this incident happened.

I hope the perp rots in prison, the POS. Early news reports said the perp had been taken out by the police. Glad they didn’t whack the POS, that would be too easy for him.

I agree to some extent with Brian and Pugs. I think it would deter some. I also think some people are wired wrong and are going to snap. This is not something thats going away and unfortunately one of the higher prices we pay to be free.

I was thinking about my post after posting it.

I wonder how many car accidents happen in the last week where people died. How many knifings, over doses and so on.

Is it just the “shootings” that makes the headlines?

Chicago doesn’t even report the murders on the nightly news anymore.

When your goal is gun control you don’t get sidetracked with the much more significant problem of auto fatalities! It would appear that you are only really dead if you are shot, getting crushed or run over by a drunk driver doesn’t seem to count as much!

Because an incident like this is “rare”, or at least used to be, our expectations makes this more newsworthy. Also, you must not pay attention to the news or are so used to the reporting of traffic fatalities that you don’t realize they do report them.

Also, when cars crash, they call it an accident. When someone plans and carries out murder, there is nothing accidental about it.

Lastly, I understand that when drive there is a possibility that I might get into an accident, one that might take my life. I don’t expect to be shot while driving though.

Those things do make it newsworthy.

    Just keeping it real.

    No, NO, NO

This guy should never see the front door of a prison.
First of all, the victims should be shooting back
And if that don’t get the job done, well then
He should be swinging from a tree via the old Hemp Necktie … out on the courthouse lawn for all the wannabees to witness, not hidden behind some 10′ high stone walls
(or Pug’s proposal of public stoning would do as well)

This person will be charged with second degree murder and first degree assault.

I agree with your thought line with a bit of reservations.
The way the system charges for every little piece of crime the difference between the bad crimes and those of victimless crime are blurred/waterdowned when talking of sentencing. Cripes there are people sitting in a cell for 15 years just for being associated to an offender.

Using the penal system as a deterrent or punishment does not work. Crypes we spend more per prisoner than we do on a student in school. No, spending less per prisoner wont help bring the cost down as they keep building new prisons to house the growing criteria of being a criminal.

tougher prison conditions may not stop a criminal from committing their crime of choice
but it can make them decide to go commit that crime elsewhere

When on a High School field trip of a state prison, I distinctly remember a convict saying
“Two places I never want to end up is Carson City or Deer Lodge, so I’ve steered clear of Nevada and Montana”

At the time both states were still operating 100 year old prisons that were built as Territorial Prisons (i.e. before they had even acheived statehood)
Unfortunately both those states have now built a “country club for criminals” facility.

Agree totally with tougher prisons. Prisons now days are like a big frat house, big screen TV’s, video games, gym equipment, 3 square a day. Heck if you can’t find a job and your parents won’t let you live with them why not go to prison rent and utility free and all the accomodations of a country club.

I think more states should do like Sherrif Joe in Arizona make them suffer the elements in the middle of BFE somewhere. I could find a nice bog somewhere in Northeastern MN, in the summer they can suffer the mosquitos, humidity heat and shower with swamp water if its a wet year; and in the winter they can deal with the cold and snow and if they want heat go get some firewood. No electricity no running water let them figure out how to survive the elements.

No need to go to Northern Minnesota. Every highway in Minnesota has trash in the ditches. Every town in Minnesota has snow on the sidewalks. Every neighborhood has graffiti on it’s buildings. Form chain gangs and put people to work. I understand that you can’t put murders and rapists on the streets, but you can put white collar criminals to work with their names on their backs. As the old saying goes….. you gotta walk before you can run.

I know it sounds great and it’s a good vent but you can’t seriously believe that would have any impact what so ever on these nut job’s doing these crazy explainable things.

Gee, I better not rob or kill somebody at gun point because they may stone me to death or give me the gas chamber.

They don’t have rational common sense thought process’s like we semi normal people do. They are generally on drugs or demented out and are not thinking about ramifications.

I would be in favor of stoning if that helps!

Very true PB. Someone in their right mind can’t make any sense out of it, or we could have stopped this long ago.

    Insert tongue in cheek here.

Maybe if we stoned everyone not quite to death at the age of 12, it would detour the whackos. They would know what’s coming.
