I know The Next Bite had some pretty cool vids of Gary Parsons hauling in some hog post-spawn walleyes. They were using rocker jig with berkeley emerald shiner plastics.

I’ve gone over a few times and fished with one of my uncles that lives near Trenton. He likes fishing the daytime in the channel with the monster weights and hand lining. That’s not my style, but I’m not saying that it doesn’t work. I like nights and crank’n the tops of the drop offs and and a few rock bars near celeron isl. I also did excellent out in Erie, but most of the water I fish there is in Canadian water. Between Colchester and Lakewood Beach (Canada) there are a few isolated rock piles/reefs amongst the sand. Difficult to find, but they hold a lot of eyes in the spring and a lot of big smallies.
My best baits have been the Live target Gizzard shad, Rainbow smelt (jerkbait) and Bomber fat free shad in citrus.
If you never fished the river there before, be prepared for some fast current. Guys think the Mississippi is haul’n when its up, and that is less than average for the Detriot. A few reefs I fish out in Erie that the river washes over has current in the 5-6 mph at more than a mile out in the lake.

I went to watch this video again and couldn’t find it, it is at this link, sorry for the mislead. Site has some good other videos as well, not so good on the actual info to catch them, but should get you pumped to go fish that river, I would!!
