Well it is about time I got serious and start a fishing journal for this year. After reading it over and over in articles and books I have already logged a few posts for myself. My question to those who have experience with these what are some other tidbits of info that you have found helpful? The usual temp., wind, barometer, clouds, water temp., baits, etc etc., looking for that extra something.

The weather a couple days out leading up to the day you fish?

I really want to do this as well… and not wanting to jack this thread…. is there a good journal for doing on my computer? A simple Mac text type of application. I hate handwriting (actually reading it is an issue)

I think having notes on weather a couple days prior would be key as well as all the other little things tried that day and conditions.

I have been keeping journals about 15 years.
The most important factor in my logs has been
    moon phase relativity.
Day fished with the number of days before or after full and new moon.
I then spend the hardwater season calculating next years fishing using that information and the dates for full and new moons.
The best fishing days are not always on the full or new moon.
I have found it varies by the month,
but is consistent for a specific month of the year.
Lot more catching going on when you just look at the forecasted dates to go fishing this way.

I hate handwriting as well but looking back at some of last fall notes and I actually sketch out the structure of where I caught the fish and the current relating to it, I would have forgotten it if I hadn’t.

personally I would look at a app that runs locally on your machine. Once you put it on the web the web master has instant access to all of you spots and data

Who’s to say an app on your machine isn’t uploading in the background?

Certainly if someone is paranoid about their info they should just stick to pen and paper or a Spreadsheet. It might be harder and more time consuming to glean data, but it affords peace of mind.

Russ, you must be using Pugs On Line App. He hasn’t caught squat in years.
