Fish allowed to be taken through ice with three lines. was introduced Feb 4 and now has been sent to Environment and Natural Resources Policy committee to be discussed tomorrow .

    WEDNESDAY, February 6, 2013

    4:00 PM

    Room: 200 State Office Building

    Chair: Rep. David Dill

Will being sent to committee mean it is there to die?

We get this talk every year and nothing ever gets resolved.

Hopefully that is the case. It is kinda a pain in the butt when you are used to fishing with three lines.

Can I trade 3 line sin winter for 2 lines in summer?

Anyone actually jig 2 lines or do you set up dead sticks and tip downs? I’d most likely just have 2 tip ups and a jigging rod.

Is this the same bill that suggested charging for the 3rd line? Either way, seems unnecessary to me.

As the bill looks it only pertains to ice fishing.

For three lines it opens up a wider range of presentations.

I have the room to set up 2 tip downs then I jig with the other when on the Croix. What would be nice in Mn with 3 lines when you use the drop down method you still have another line for a deadstick or tipdown. As of now a dropdown you lose your second line.

Not sure of the wording in last years bill but this one so far is cut and dry and simple so far as we all know it probably will warf into something like last year. Also I think last year was for the whole year use where this is just for ice fishing.

This will ruin fishing as we know it in Mn.

    Pug,

I generally setup 2 Tip downs and jig with the 3rd line, unless the Tip Downs get hot then I will switch to all 3 Tip Downs.

I don’t know why I don’t drill 2 holes near each other and leave one with a bobber as a dead stick while I jig next to it. I guess because I always feel the need to have one tip up out. I guess this would take care of that.

I did try 1 line 2 jigs this year. That was kind of useless.

This still really bugs me that we go to 3 lines in winter and still need to use just one in the summer.

I was thinking the same thing. That would be nice to have an extra line when your pulling plugs by yourself.

Would much rather see two lines for open water fishing. Two lines winter fishing is good. Most of the time I just fish one. Only got one half way decent fishing pole anyways. Guess I could set out a extra tip that I dont pay attention to anyways.

Same here. Ice fishing is what puts the real hurt on a lake.

..WRONG.! Ruin.? It will make it way BETTER ..I fish 3 lines almost everyday here on WI. side of pool 4 what a BLAST.! And if i am on the Mn. side in the summer i can still fish 2. Perfect. No Mn. Inland lakes for me. One line is just plain BS.. …rrr

Randy! Shut your mouth!! Don’t need to tell EVERYONE about our little secret!!

PS Had that conversation with the MN DNR. Lakes are different then our fertile river.

Haha. I must be a great fisherman to catch a sucker like RRR.

I’ve been banging the 2 line drum since I moved her from S.D. Still can’t believe we can’t have two lines in Mn. The argument always has and always will be, “It will ruin the fishing” with little to NO facts to backup this stance.

Yep, they are completely different. Man doesn’t impact a large river much. They are very healthy ecosystems.

Now why won’t they be more liberal with non border big rivers then?

Go to 4 or 5 lines. May as well clean out the fish. The Zeebs will ruin it all in the near future. Then we can all take up tubing.

Ice fisherman are bigger meat hogs than open water anglers.

Both, as long as neither meet each other.

Actually the wife and I are both native South Dakotans, however, she is the one preventing me from moving back now.

I guess those 3 lines have ruined the WI fishery, 5 lines in New York so there must not be a fish left in the water there. Do you really believe that one more line will destroy the fishing? Maybe they should cut ice fishing back to 1 line and a limit of 1 walleye. I think spearing does a lot more damage.

Yep Iowa went to adding the 3rd line (our law allows 2 already), you have to pay extra though. Soft or hard water.
