corrosion on sonar connections

I had my boat on the road in December after a snow and got salt on my rig. I hosed it off at a car wash a week later, but just noticed some corrosion on my sonar/gps cable connectors. Nothing too serious, but also something I didn’t like to see. I cleaned them off with water, then a little wd40. Does anyone use any type of spray product or grease on their connectors to inhibit rust and keep them clean? In the future I will keep them covered when trailering in the winter. I was trying to be proactive removing my units when traveling and then this happened any other winter trailering tips are welcomed!!

    thanks

Go to your local automotive store and get a tube of “dielectric grease”. It is used on electrical connections to prevent corrosion. I use it all the time on my trailer plugs, trailer bulb bases and contacts and spark plug wires on an antique tractor. Good stuff!

X100! I use it on every conection in my boat and have a spare tube also in boat.
Great stuff. Very inexpensive. Almost any hardware store should have it.

Hunting Dave nailed it. Dielectric grease is spendy but worth it’s weight in gold. Take it from a guy that spent years out on the Walleye trails in all kinds of weather. This stuff will make you “happy happy”. Use it on all electrical connections in your car/truck batteries and trailer plug connections. In the boat , use it on your battery/sonars/termination points and fuse block connectors as well as ALL of your trailer light termination points and on the plug in pigtails. Then when you pull the trailer out in the spring you won’t have to say everything worked when I put it away now what happened ?

Use your boat cover. Keep the stuff out and you will prevent a problem.
