I don’t miss a show. All these guys are the real deal being real shiners and thier all making the real deal. I’m sure the guys that are filming it and the shows producers have signed promises not to inform the local sherrifs, they’d have to or I’m sure these guys wouldn’t be letting them video them making shine. Is it real moonshine coming from those stills, Id bet its the real stuff, even the bottles and jugs that are full of it.
Ya alot of it is staged but there has to be some coordination to whats going on so they can video. I think moonshineing is so deeply engrained in those southern mountains that theres no doubt its the real deal.
Here in Iowa I know a guy who has a still and rarely uses it but he said the other day, as we were talking about the show, that its leagal here to still, for your own consumption but a guy just can’t sell it, he said its the same as beer or wine making. I’m sure purity, actual alcohol content, clean equipment and state and governemnt taxes comes into play. There are a few companies that do leagally make moonshine and sell it on the open market that you can buy and its on some liquor store shelves, and Id bet some of that shine is made from old handed down many generation recepies. I think the show is as close as you can get to the real thing. Anybody have any doubt that Tickles always half or fully crocked and Id bet the guys taking a nip during the videoing is the real stuff because theres no law saying they can’t. Jim Tom is the Journeyman on still making and Id bet theres many many others in the mountains there that won’t be videoed who are just as skilled. A good show showing some of the traditions In America.
