What one warm day does to a guy

60 degrees, thunderstorms, monsoon rains…in January of all things here in WI. Well, I don’t play games with lightning so I stayed the heck off of the ice yesterday. But, being in shorts all day had me thinking about being on the bow of the boat and picking apart some deep edges of clam beds with some blade baits. Next thing I know, I had cast 200+ blades and ready for the powder paint. Nothing like adding more weight to the boat

Looks good Randy. This weather is painful. I had the same urge yesterday and started filling up the fly box will post a picture whenever I figure out how

I am not ready to put away the ice gear yet…However – I am going to visit my boat this afternoon in her heated storage where she has been sleeping for too long.

Nice use of time building lures and filling the fly box fellas.

Put a few of those brass ones to a paper wheel and shine them up. Even put a shine to the lead. I’ve had some great days using that color pattern on the river.

Blue, you scare me some days Your reading my mind on a few things. I ordered 2#’s of ultra clear/gloss from Allpowderpaints.com and a bunch of different color fleck. I’ll have a few in the polished brass clear coated, Gold Fleck, Firecracker, Purpleish glow/pearl, gold/red fleck,, Not that I don’t have enough to do, I just get these color ideas and need to try them
Plus I’ll need to have enough extras in the boat if you show up when I get up there in a couple months

No lightning here in Southwestern WI yesterday, but the fish had the feed bag on until the wind went to the NW. 18 8inch gills, 5 10 inch crappies and 7 perch up to 11 inches + too many throw backs to count. Best day of the season on Pool 9 so far.

I’ve been thinking about that pile of blade baits, 200 of them. And then I started thinking about how long it would take me to lose every single one to snags.

My best estimate is somewhere between 20 minutes and half an hour.

    I’m sticking to topwater baits
