Pitchers and catchers are only a couple of weeks away. I can’t wait! I’m not crazy enough to think they will win the division, but if healthy I think a .500 record is possible. That’s a lot of ground to make up from last years 66-96 disaster but it’s a new year!

Except for Diamond it’s a all new starting staff. No more getting down 5-0 before the second inning. No more getting into the bullpen in the 4th inning every game.

Hopefully Span does well in Washington, but I won’t miss him here. Same with Revere, nice player but he can be replaced. (I hope)

What excites me the most is the fresh coaching staff. New opinions, new idea’s. Lets get somebody coaching third who actually knows whats happening.

Did anybody go to Twins fest? I might look into a partial season ticket package this year.

    Play ball!!

Wow that is some good stuff you are smoking! We are on our way to 100 this year! I will spend my time fishing and not watching.

i love the twinds and i will still be watching many games but if somebody were to bet me a 100 loss season or a 100 win season i would put money on the 100 loss in a heart beat no questions asked and if somehow we did get a 100 win season then id be happy to pay up……. go twins maybe we will be back into the playoffs in a few years if our new staff can build us up. and get some pitching!!

I think .500 is a real possibility but I think the Twins making coaching changes is completely laughable. Is changing the 3rd base coach really going to help win games? Do we really think thats a vital part of the team? And the base running coach….I didn’t even know we had one till he got fired. What a joke. I’m fairly certain at the pro level players know how to run the bases. I could be wrong about this one so please correct me if I am, but I think they reassingned their hitting coach to infield coach. Someone will need to explain that one to me. I think its crap that the team didn’t do well so all the coaches who had very little to do with it lose their jobs, while the 2 who make the biggest impact stay with the team. Rick anderson needs to go, the pitching has been terrible. Remember when R.A Dickey was on our team? They let him go without a fight now he’s a Cy Young winner, I guess the knuckle-baller wasn’t pitching to contact enough. anyways, Go Twins!!

I’m with Brian with this. I like the moves, although I will miss Reveres enthusiasm. It’s a new season so you’ve got to feel upbeat about it and I will take a radio in the boat so I won’t miss a game. Oh, and they did pick up some pitching.

The player moves have been fine, using assistant coaches as scapegoats is pretty lame though

Coaches are graded by the front office just like the players. We as fans see how the players do, but the coaches we don’t see and it’s hard to judge them. If Ryan says they gotta go, then they gotta go. Dick Such was ripped and vilified as a pitching coach around her for a long time. When Gardy came Anderson came with him. They have won divisions many times with never having any really good pitching. The example of R. A. Dickey is flawed. He had been passed around like a joint at Woodstock before winning the Cy Young last year. You can name the best pitching coach in baseball and I don’t think he could win with whats been around here the last couple of years.

But hey, it’s a new year with new pitchers so who knows? Maybe this years Cy Young winner is on the Twins staff!

I really liked the moves this offseason, setting up for the future is exactly what they have to do in this situation. Im really liking the rotation of pelfrey, diamond, Worley, Gibson, and Correia. Well done Terry Not great, but we are set up well for the future with 2 more top prospects in Meyer and May.

Its well known that the twins love pitchers who pitch to contact. Its that philosophy that has them in the situation their in. We don’tknow exactly what goes on behind the scenes but I have to believe Gardy and Rick anderson at least have a say in who they bring in to throw. None of our pitchers are getting any better and the one potential ace they had {Liriano) Can’t throw to save his life. I know he had surgery and all but so have lots of other great pitchers. I’m just saying the the thought process of ‘our pitching is so bad we need to fire everyone but the pitching coach’ is not only flawed but straight up ridiculous. They even fired the bullpen coach. The guy does nothing but tell people when to warm up and go in the game.

i expected revere to replace span, but not both of them to go. we have a 23 million dollar singles hitter batting 3rd. we traded two .300 leadoff players, who is going to take that role? maestroanni? gotta have someone on base for joe to hit singles for. casilla is gone(wont miss him other than his d) so we traded away alot of speed on the basepaths also. with the moves detroilet has been doing the past few yrs vs the twins picking up all the washouts i dont see us contending for a long time. was bored on a ride home from work one day thinking of who we had left from the 2010 team. mauer and morneau, perkins, and thats pretty much all i can think of. pretty much starting from scratch. also proves you cant build a team around mauer and morneau.

I must have missed something, when did Span or Revere finish a season with a .300 average batting leadoff

Just checked. Revere was .294 last year, thats pretty close. Was he leadoff all season?

Dickie spent 10 yrs at texas and 1 at seattle before becoming a twin, I wouldnt call that passed around. 1 year at the twins and off to win 39 games in 3 yrs for the mets. Dickie credits Oral Hershiser for taking the flaws out of his control, he is only going to get better. The twins let one slip through the cracks, but who knew (besides hershiser)

Coaches also told Lohse he didnt have what it takes to be a starter, so he wanted to be let go so he could start. Hes only won 30 games in the last 2 years, and is only going to get better.

Dickey didnt have what it takes, Lohse didnt have what it takes, Garza was hard to work with, Its a shame to think of the pitching staff we could have right now if our coaches were COACHES

None of the pitchers have a chance at getting better? Gibson was a stud in the minors before his Tommy john surgery. you may think that would hurt, but if you look it up, players that come back from tommy j surgery actually do better 2-3 years after the surgery. He has the stuff, thats for sure. Along with diamond, he pitched well last year, cant promise hes going to get better every year, but he should! I havent even mentioned our best and youngest pitcher yet, Vance Worley. The guy is a freakin stud.

Unless you’re a Twin. Liriano was a stud when he first came on, Tommy J surgery, now he can’t throw a strike. Blackburn is another example of a pitcher who kept getting worse

Blackburn sucked before and after the surgery. Strasburg, santana, soria, cris carpenter, aj burnett.. all these guys have all had tommy john in the past and have turned out to be alright. Im sure gibson will do the same

Here we go BREWERS here we go! (clap) (clap). Look forward to some good discussions come inter-league play between Twinks and brewers.

Regardless…. Walleye pole in one hand, cold beverage in the other, and the call of a game on the radio…. Doesn’t get much better.

I think .500 is a goal to shoot for and although that doesn’t get a lot of people excited – – for me it will be fun to see a whole new handful of prospects play and see who really rises to the next level. I’m sure there will be some exciting new players, some duds and some surprises too…
