Is that price with labor? If yes probably about right.

Is that just for the pump? Was thinking it was closer to double that last time I had one installed on a vehicle.

Probably is correct but make sure they use a genuine GM fuel pump! The aftermarkets are junk!

    IMHO!

Is it the type of fuel pump on top of the tank where the whole tank needs to be dropped to replace? If so I’ve seen friends get quotes in the $800 range but when they shop around can get it done for $400-$500 including labor.

it is very possible that the pump is inside the fuel tank, so you have to drop the tank to get the pump out.

gees what ever happened to the day were it was two bolts and $35 bucks on the side of a Chevy 350? this used to be a 20 minute job if you knew what you were doing.. if that long and was done in every major parking lot across the USA.. with one guy doing the work, two guys standing there for support with a beverage in hand , and some old guy offering tips that you never listened to , until you went. Uh.. Oh OH.. crap.. and then he starts laughing and walks away.. so do your buddies..

Is it a carb or TBI motor? I think 89 was one of the last if not the last where you could still get a carb and not fuel injection. If its a carb its a mechinical pump on the side of the block. If it is it should be $30-$40 for a pump. 2 bolts and 2 lines and your back in action.

I was going to ask if it is in the tank too. Had a couple of Exploders in my day and a fuel pump was not cheap to replace because they do have them in the tanks.

Sounds like the trk is not worth much???
Cut a hole in the floor right above the gas tank cap and do the work yourself. Place a sheet of metal over the hole and caulk it up then roll carpet back over it.

    Been there, done that.

Yes that is probably right. The sending unit and float are all one unit and yes it is in the tank. I agree with buying a GM one. Make sure the wiring is in good shape. Sometimes they get burnt from getting to hot.

Sounds about right Smoke but make sure they aren’t boughten from Auto Zone or the cheaper auto parts places. Its better to go with origional equipment. Ive changed a few for myself and the daughter and a price of $400 isn’t too bad for what they have to do to get the tank down, pump installed and put back up,,,and done right. Id pay it, make sure its a quality pump or you’ll be doing it again in under a years time, I did 2 that way because I bought the cheaper ones befor I learned…….

You guys have never steered me wrong for the past year or so.. I really appreciate you guys and this forum.. thanks again. you guys ROCK..

Buy that guy a drink. If he treats your daughter that well you have it made.
