Historically.. the Presidential inauguration is on Jan 20th. This year, however, I think Pres Obama is directly screwing with me and having it on Jan 21st. It is a conspiracy! I gotta fly to DC for work on Monday morning… get in about 10:30am on inauguration day… and get to deal with numerous flight restrictions, traffic/road closures, 800,000+ spectators, etc. How self centered can they be!

That… Or next time I better do my research before planning my work trips!

I thought about hurrying up and going to see it… just so I can say I saw the biggest disappointment in the history of the US. ONLY KIDDING! Geesh!

I mean the 2nd biggest dissapointment (hey.. 2nd term and all). LOL! Ok, ok… I thought of seeing it just for the sake of seeing it. I mean… how many people can say they have seen a President be inaugurated? But between getting in at ABOUT 10:30…, get my luggage… will be about 11:30 before I get to the hotel (in Arlington). 30 mins isn’t much time to get about 3 miles (walking most of the way because the Memorial bridge is closed off completely to all vehicles). And my fat can’t run!

I may just sit outside and listen to the 21 gun salute… get to hear the howitzers!

Looking past the largest financial mistake this country ever made, I would still try to see it or take in what you could. There isn’t many places on earth that have a transfer of power in such a peaceful manor. I know its round two for the clown, but still a ceremony that signifies what this nation is about.
I was so anti-politicians until I worked in DC for a few days and visited all the memorials. Something for me changed when I read our families’ names on that black granite wall of the Vietnam Memorial, looked at all gold stars on the WW II memorial, and looked at the charred stones in the wall of the Pentagon. A hell of a lot of dead men gave us that privilege to carry on traditions & ceremonies that we nee to respect. Not saying we need to agree with the clowns running the show, but just having the respect for the show we watch.

Oh… I agree! I am a patriot. And I do hope to get around to a few places if time allows. I don’t think I would be able to get to the actual ceremony in time. To do so, I would likely have to be dragging my luggage along and I don’t think the secret service would like to see some guy with a suitcase and other bags walking towards a big crowd! lol

Sad state when after all he’s done, there’s still 800,000 that want to see this.

Dave, I’ve had my run-ins with the TSA and fish finders, plastics, and other “stuff” that X-rays similar to C4. I can only imagine what the SS would do with you carrying a suitcase up to the whitehouse fence

I agree with Randy, this guy will likely go down as the worst president in the history of the USA, but you can say you saw him inaugurated. I have full respect for the position of the President, just not the man pretending to lead our country. You should make an effort to get there. Plus, think how fun it will be to stand watching 800,000 sheep.

He claims to be leading from behind, to me that is akin to following from in front!

I agree with Kooty. We must respect the position, regardless of what we think of the man. Just think about where some of the comments made about our current leader would land you if living in the wrong country. We don’t need the Secret Police breaking down doors and making people simply disappear because of different political views.

Well, didn’t mean for this thread to go so political. yeah.. I got strong feelings on the subject.. but was trying to make light of it. I would go see the inauguration if I could… I just don’t see it happening with my schedule. If I could… then I wouldn’t be so frustrated. But the fact that I won’t be able to… and will just have to deal with all the hassle that this particular day brings… well, that’s why I posted the original. When I scheduled the trip, I thought the funeral, er, I mean festivities were happening a couple days before.

Just an update… flew in to DC a few hours ago. Awesome view coming in.. plane appeared to follow the Patomac and, at a very low altitude, bank into the airport. Stayed low enough and close enough… got an awesome view of the White House, Washington Monument, Capitol, and the back side of the Lincoln Memorial! With so many security procedures in place, especially considering the inauguration today… I couldn’t believe how close we got. Close enough to see the color jackets people were wearing in the mall! It was an amazing site!

On the shuttle ride to the hotel.. .also got close up to the Pentagon. Huge structure of a building!

So… I got my sight-seeing done in the matter of about 30 minutes!
