Knot tying….

For tying a leader onto braid, I always use a uni to uni. I may not be perfect at doing it… and with that in mind, wondering if anyone uses a nail to nail type of knot? I think it is the second used in this youtube video.

I know the tool has been discussed on here, and the double nail knot looks like a uni unless I am missing something. Using the tool sure makes it easy to get good clean knots for those of us with two thumbs or cold fingers.

I like mine. I wrap 6-7 times for braid. No problems yet.

use the modified albright knight aka the the Alberto knot much faster to tie than uni to uni and I have never had one break since making the switch last season. My leaders usually break at the hook or sinker unlike the uni to uni witch broke at the knot most of the time. It also goes thru guides better IMHO.

Been using the polymer knot for a couple years now and have had no problems.

Looks like a super square knot (so to speak) to me. It has the properties anyway, heh?

Okay, so I’ll be the oddball here but I switched from the Modified Albright back to the Uni-Uni. For two reasons:

    1) The most important part of tying the Albright is making absolutely sure that at the end of tying the knot you go back through the original loop the same direction as you started. I’m sure some might think I’m a nub, but too many times in a bobbing boat I get this wrong even though I think I have it right. Finish the knot, pull hard to make sure its good and …snap! So it wasn’t right, and I re-tie and sometimes I do it again, get frustrated and revert to to a Uni just so I know I have a correctly tied knot. (I wonder how many people really pull hard and test their knot before casting out?).

    2) With the Albright knot, because you lap over the knot a second time when tying, to me it seems a little thicker than the Uni and so it rubs more on the guides. After several casts seems that it could weaken faster. Uni-Uni is a slightly longer but narrower knot and for me seems to run through the guides just a little smoother.

I’ve seen “Knot Wars” and realize a properly tied Modified Albright might be slightly stronger than a Uni-Uni, but based on the two factors above I’ve stopped tying the Albright. Confidence becomes a bigger factor for me and if both knots are relatively strong, I guess I go with what works for me best.

I’ve always used and had good results with the Albright. Seeing the recommendations on the Alberto know, I may have to try that one out as well.
