Eskimo customer service

Went ice fishing last week and found out the gas tank was leaking on my auger (still getting that wonderful smell out of my vehicle). Of course the auger is about 3 weeks out of warranty. Called customer service, they overnighted me a replacement at no charge. Spent some time on it last night and I’m good to go. Now ideally it wouldn’t have failed within two years of purchase and I wouldn’t have had to spend a couple hours swapping it out but in today’s world I’d say they deserve some credit for taking care of the customer. Time to go fishing!

Just wondering was it the Eskimo Mako? I too have had some issue with the tank leaking recently. Was it the tank or the cap?

Mine, MAKO also, I had to replace the fuel line, it was leaking after 2 years… very brittle hose IMHO, so I used auto grade now

It’s a Mako 43. The tank was leaking where the fasteners are pressed into the tank. The new tank has tabs that aren’t part of the fuel storage area. Hopefully this design will last longer. From some other comments on the web it sounds like an issue others have had with the same age of auger. Until this happened I’ve been happy with the auger, cuts nice and starts easy. And carrying it gives me some needed exercise.

I was wondering about that too. The replacement tank came with a new fuel line and a spare line as well.

That’s good to hear. I just bought an Eskimo Mako last weekend. Since we are talking about them what do you guys make of the auto vent gas cap? Will it leak if you lay the unit down so gas sits over the cap? If so I plan to replace with old style manual vent cap.

The new vent cap looks like it’s the auto vent style. Last night while I was testing for leaks it didn’t have a problem. I’ll have to keep an eye on it. The old style was the manual vent, never had a problem with that. Unless of course I forgot to close it!

I too have the Mako 43 and when it runs it runs great. But I have been dealing with the gas leak as well. I think I might switch out the fuel lines and maybe try another gas cap as well.
