Combating corrosion on ice fishing gear.

The past few years I’ve been taking longer trips in which I’ve been hauling my quad and all my gear with minimal protection. In the off season I’ve noticed corrosion build up on linkages and the engines of both the quad and auger. I’ve since cleaned it all and lubed everything and then sprayed all parts with a anti corrosion spray I picked up from a marina and since had no more issues. Just thought I would pass this on not only to keep things looking good but operating efficiently as we’ll.

Salt is horrible here in south central WI. DOT thinks they need to put a ton of salt per foot of road (I might be embellishing that a little bit ) every time the weather man say possibility of snow. I try to run my boat all winter in Lake MI going to the power plant and harbor. But I hate having the entire thing filled with salt. Nearest car wash is 4 miles away and just in that distance my boat will be white again

I have occasionally gotten lazy and made the 10 or 15 mile trip home from a lake without covering my snowmobile. Even if the roads have not been sloppy for days,a thin film of salt dust covers the sled. Ity’s more of a pita to clean it off than it would have been to put the cover on.

I very rarely make the 20 mile drive to the harbor with my boat in winter,in part because of the salt. if I do,it’s only when I can hose it off when I get home.

Work? We do not take the brush chipper on the road if there’s a chance of salty slop.

Cover it,clean it,avoid “bad” days,or use it with the acceptance of salt damage.
