All surveys are useful in one way or another. Assuming fishing pressure or land use practices haven’t changed significantly an old survey with a great size structure to a population of a target species might warrant the lake in question a second look.
For what it’s worth, I think too many guys are way over the top on the latest/greatest of maps since we entered the era of electronic mapping. Down here near the arm pit of the state, these lakes get more man hours of fishing per suitable acre than you can imagine. Fortunately, enough guys don’t take the time to look back at OLD maps that hold details that are not shown on modern maps. Older paper maps from the 70’s, early 80’s and some that are even older show old creek beds, more geographic info on the surrounding shorelines, and even survey/netting locations. I guess one of the things that always kept me intrigued with fishing. Unlocking information can sometimes take compiling info from multiple treasure maps.
