I bought my wife an iPhone for Christmas and now I need to get it unlocked. I Also need to cut the sim card(I think).
After looking online I think I would like to take it somewhere to get this done. Anyone know of a good place in the area to take it? I’m willing to go anywhere from Eau Clare to the cities. Also, if someone has an easy link to unlock a phone that would be great too. Thanks in advance.
Look on craigslist. Tons of college kids doing this stuff for like ten bucks. That’s what the wife and I did.

If you buy a phone from t mobile or Verizon the phone is registered to you and your cell phone company. It is locked so only you can use it them with their service. If you sell it to some one they need to get it unlocked. The new owner can then use it with a different carrier if they choose to. Not always necessary, and not all phones work with all carriers… I think…

the provider has a crystal in the phone to key it to their towers/service.
you need to take it to the provider you are going to use and they will key it to their towers.
they do this for free.
i buy my phones on ebay and then que them up with whoever i’m going to use.
You should’ve bough the phone directly from apple. They have factory unlocked versions of the iphone 5 
They work with any service provider 
are you talking about Jailbreaking your phone so you can get the apps for free? its easy =)

Thanks guys. I found a guy on craigslist. 30$ he’ll cut the sim and unlock the phone. He’s in oakdale, so close enough for me. I’ll let you know how it goes.
