Boat fuses

I was helping my neighbor with his boat. Live well pump didn’t work. Told him to first check the fuses. As they were unlabled, he needed to pull each fuse, blade type, and check if blown. The third fuse he pulled had an “E” on it instead of the usual 5 or 10 for amps. While replacing it it slipped out of his grasp and fell behind the wall and slid to the bottom of the boat. Not retrievable unless we do major removal of the whole console and some side and floor panels. What does the “E” stand for? He tried to buy another at Ace Hardware and they never heard of it. Is it a Marine only fuse? Does he have to travel to a Marina to get one. Thanks in advance. By the way, the problem was just a bad connection at the fuse panel.

I am thinking it was a 3 read backwards. (E)

Yep. 3 – Generally purple in color.

Lucky, that’s a “slow blow” fuse. You would need the color to know the amperage.

It was a 3 in backwards. The ones that came in my box were that type of font. They look exactly like E’s. Purple with white lettering.

He should take the time to mark his box now so he only has to search once.

You can get the fuses anywhere.

On a related note, could you guys help me out – I’m trying to figure out what the “710” dipstick is for under the hood of my truck.

Oh, wait. OIL. I get it.

    Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Or he could buy a new boat, where the fuses are already marked Love some of the friendly advice given here

Reminds me of the last trip in the boat with the nephew.

Some guys cut his cables and lifted the battery and we new this heading to the ramp, we figured we’d strip the wires and put them on without the cable terminals.

Well, we had no color to go by, only the white stripe on the cable. My nephew guessed wrong and blew a fuse. I had no idea the out board would have a fuse under the cover and it took us about a half hour to find it.

Then I had to drive down the road to try and find a proper fuse. I don’t think they had the exact amperage or something, so again I had to take a chance.

We did end up getting out on the water, but this was pretty typical when Stan Laurel and I go fishing.

I found it funny for a different reason, but then again, my mind is pretty warped.

I think that comment from John is perhaps the understatement of the year…
