Drain your trailer well before leaving the water. It freezes on the ramp and makes launching not fun.

Check the ramp when launching. If the fellows ahead of you didn’t drain their trailers, it makes launching fun.

Keep your motor in the water.

When finished, turn off your kill switch and turn over your motor in the down position to help clear out any water in the water pump ect.

Plug your live well in hopes of keeping it dry.

    Wear your PFD!!

If you use your trolling motor, wipe down the shaft before stowing it. Don’t be in a hurry to do or go anywhere. IF you have bunks, you might have to sit in the water for a bit until your boat unfreezes from the bunks.

    Good Luck!

Make sure you plug the livewell inlet at the back of the boat. Water will get into the pump and lines and crack them.

Also give your trailer wheel bearings a couple pumps of grease every couple trips to help keep the water out and everything running smoothly.

    Preventive aggrevation suggestions.

    Fully charge & test batteries!
Start motor and let idle allowing a proper warm up and water pump to function.
Let motor drain after loading on the trailer.
Carry a can of de-icer for trolling motor.
    Fresh fuel & stabilizer.
    Plenty of xtra dry gloves.
    Have fun fishing!

Wear your PFD. Hypothermia is a killer when temps are near freezing especially when you are wearing heavy clothes and boots. I like to have several rods ready too as they will ice up on you.
