Thinking about getting a new lap top. All the Dells now come with Windows 8. After reading the reviews……sounds like there are a lot of problems with Windows 8. Anyone have Windows 8 and what do you think of it??

I too am looking for a new laptop and will be reading the replies. From the reviews I had seen, a lot of the comments revolve around the fact that windows 8 is designed to use with a touch screen and some of the functions are not user friendly when using a mouse and key board instead of a touch screen. I may want to adjust my want list to include a touch screen.

Looking forward to reports from those of you who already have windows 8, let us know what you like and/or don’t like. Thanks

Just bought an HP last week from Best Buy. As far as I am concerned, I would have preferred to have windows XP or 7 on it as I am very familiar with those operating systems. The ideal of having all these apps running and updating the primary window does not appeal to me because it takes up processor bandwidth to run all the apps. Bad enough to have virus software hogging the hard drive.

The nice think I can say is that MS improved the start up time. It takes just a couple of seconds coming out of sleep. From cold start from shut down, it took 20-30 seconds for the PC to start up, but I am usually putting my laptop into sleep anyways.

I looked long and hard at the new ultrabooks that have 32MB of SSD memory and tried to see how much time improvement coming out of sleep improved. It has to be less than a second, cause as soon as I hit an app, it was ready to run. So that is an improvement, but maybe not worth $400.

In the end, I bought the HP AMD 6 processor (equivalent to Intel I3)with 4 GB DRAM and 500 MB 5400 RPM hard drive for no other reason than price. I bought the package deal from best buy with memory stick, mouse, half year antivirus, and a couple other things for $20 less than the cost of the computer alone.

So, this caused an issue at the checkout where the scan was taken of the label on the box for the computer and that is what I was charged ($399.) but the price of the bundled system was $379. So, I realized this error when I got home and had to go back. They have to scan 5 labels for their system to recognize the bundle deal and give the customer the correct pricing.

    Check your receipt…

I have Windows 8, I dont care for it very much. I miss when windows was just a basic operating system (xp), now they are so damn complicated it takes 25 clicks to start it up and get on the internet.

Just got a new laptop after mine was stolen from a home invasion. So far not real fond of it, took a couple minutes to figure out how to shut it down.

After a couple days of using it I’m becoming a little more familiar but still liked Windows 7 better. I was told there was something you can download to make 8 operate more like 7 but forgot what it was, I’ll try to find out what it was.

    Maybe this will help.

Classic Shell is the answer, it’s great!!!! Windows 8 is nothing more than Windows 7 with a pretty (UGLY) face put on it. Once you get rid of the Metro Interface and get behind the scenes it is nothing more than a slightly modified Windows 7.

Install classic Shell and never look back!!!

Windows 8 is meant for tablets and phones….I would not recommend it for home or business use. It’s too big of a change to deal with and not user friendly for the old applications and knowledge the average user is used to.

When you click on the get help button in the linked page, there seems to be a lot of issues with it.
How is this “Classic Shell” working out?

My sis has a new lap top and never had a computer before other than using one of the familys while she is with her kids. No smart phone either. I’m a win 7 user and most of the family is the smae or earlier versions.

    Any Issues?
