Fake Ice Fishing

We were supposed to be heading for South Dakota today for the first of the year ice fishing trips. But soft ice and a warm week forced us to reschedule for later. Rather than pout about it (or work to catch up on things before Christmas…..) I sought fish on the river. What started out as a cool, but doable day, looked like a skunk after the first two hours. Then, a change of spots changed the morning. I found six crappies of eating size, using some Gulp maggots, and then 9 of the nicest sunfish to add to my pail of fish. Enough fish for a good meal! And now that I am done cleaning them for supper, I see that the snow has arrived. Perfect ending to a great day on the water. Almost like ice fishing, but without the holes!!
