Will be using combination of 2 man flipover or 4 man upright portable houses this winter. Does the Buddy heater (9K BTU’s)provide enough heat for a portable or would you guys recommend going with the Big Buddy (4K, 9K or 18K BTUs)? (Will have grandkids along on some trips.)

Have only used a Big Buddy elk hunting so not sure how much heat the Buddy puts out in a confined space. Tired of the old Sunflower destroying everything in sight

Cabela’s is selling reconditioned units in both sizes so thought I’d pick one up for myself.

    Thanks

IMHO go with the Big Buddy and you are set. Can always turn it down. Sure would be hate to be short on heat if it is needed.

Without a TC I would definately go with Big. Sometimes with a combo of wind and cold the 18K BTU is a nice thing to have.

Go with the Big Buddy. On the days it gets real cold, you’ll wish you had those extra btu’s in both of those portables. I have the 6×12 Clam Command Post and the Big Buddy keeps it warm as long as its not overly cold, with 2-3 people in there. I don’t think the Buddy would keep up.

I bought the buddy first then the big buddy, for the same reason as everyone stated above. On cold windy days the added heat is nice however I purchased and insulated portable last year and the buddy heater worked just fine on cold windy days. I would still go with the Big Buddy and take no chances on being cold. Be sure to use the cable adapter to at least a 5 lb tank because the big buddy goes through 1 lb cylinders like my daugher eats candy in the fish house.

I have both, get the big buddy and you won’t be disappointed.

BIG, BIGGER IS ALWAYS BETTER When you use the 2 mini-tanks at full heat “I think it’ll run for a couple hours, adjusting heat down will extend that, correct me if I’m wrong? I use mine in garage etc. and hook up a 20lb tank. great heater

I use a buddy heater in my four man pop up. Mine runs on 4000btus most of the time since I still wear all my gear and it help me from gettign sweated up then going outside and freezing. Seeing how you have grandchildren I’d would say go big buddy cause kids wont last too long in the cold.

Hate to do this but I disagree. I have both. I prefer the Buddy over the Big Buddy because it’s lighter, has a smaller footprint in the shelter and in my thermal it still gets too hot sometimes. I only use the Big Buddy for late fall camping and deer camp. The Big Buddy will however kick out more heat if that’s what you prefer.

Sorry. I seen it in the ad I got on Monday. For some reason the Ads I receive are a week a head. So they will be on sale next week.
