Also, I don’t care if Arkansas thinks highly of him. I’m just glad he’s gone. I’ll go as far as to say, I’m fine with a few 5-7 or 6-6 years if rebuilding must happen. I just don’t want to look at a blank face when things get tough.

I want somebody who cares as much about the game when they’re losing as they do when it’s 70-10. Maybe that’s too much to ask.

just for the record winweum, who do you want to come in and coach? I love Barry and I was lucky enough to be a student when he was coaching. He came in and had a lot of success recruiting and coaching up his recruiting base. Barry never had 4 and 5 star recruits. Just like Beilma. so if you think there is a coach out there that is going to come in and start getting skilled positions to come in consistently form outside WI’s recruiting base you are dreaming man.
Winnging big ten’s and going to Rose bowls is the only way to get a couple of those guys and that is what Beilma was doing. He might not have been as pretty as Urban (the blank stare) but Urban would never have come to WI. Barry is God to us Wisky’s but even he coulnd’t carry us much further than he did.

You’ll see. national championships don’t grow on trees. If you are not happy with big ten championships and Rose Bowls then you will be a very unhappy person for realistically the rest of your life.

Read my post, I wanted something better. Give me an upgrade from the last guy. What did BB do better than Barry?

Please tell me, I’m dying to know. You’re right, titles don’t grow on trees, but getting lesser coaches doesn’t get you any closer. BB benefited from a down big 10.

Go ahead and root for 8-4 with some rose bowl loses. That’s good enough for some people. By the way, I’m a Cubs fan, so don’t tell me about unrealistic expectations. The Cubs will likely never be a winning organization in my lifetime. The difference is, Wisconsin football is on the edge of being there. BB did not take it to the next level when everything was in his favor to do so.

Like I said, I’m willing to deal with some 500 years to rebuild, I’m not willing to settle for 7-5 on a down year with everything stacked in Wisconsins favor after 7 years as head coach. Am I the only person that’s bothered by the fact that the guy couldn’t recruit a qb? How many of the starters in his tenure have been transfers? I can think of at least 4.

That’s not recruiting, that’s circumstance falling in his favor. I’m done with this thread. I don’t like BB and never will. That’s all there is to it.

4 mil a year. That will go a long way in Arkansas. The most unfortunate thing is a bar or two on State Street may close with BB leaving town now.

They lost more games this year because they had six new coaches and they lost 7 players who went to the NFL.
Show me any program in the country that can stay right where they were the following year after losing that many,
quality coaches! Not to mention the quality players that graduated.

Alabama with Nick Sabin as coach

Which years did those programs lose six assistant coaches?

wimwuen – I got it. The credit for all the wins over the past 7 years goes to Paul Christ. (for carrying BB)
And all the losses are BB’s fault.

My point is simple, if your going to point out his faults, then don’t ignore the fact that he also brought many positives to Badger football.

There’s two sides to every coin and you do not appear able or willing to see the good side.

Except for a select few coaches around the country college football head coaches are a revolving door. Other than Ferentz at Iowa and Fitzgerald at Northwestern, none of the coaches in the B1G have been around more than a few years at best. The days of one coach staying at the same school for 10 years are over. I was at UW during the 2 Rose Bowls at the end of the Alvarez years and am still a huge fan. Bielema was a good coach, but was admittedly maddening to watch managing the game some times. Even though they got into the Rose Bowl this year through the back door he accomplished a lot in 6 years relative to every other coach in the B1G. I think the hope now is that the program is in a place now that it can compete for a national title. With the amount of talent coming back from this year’s team Wisconsin should be a very attractive job. I hope Cryst listens if Barry calls him, but given the fact that loyalty is dead in college football my guess is that there will be a couple of other people that aren’t on the radar right now that would pick up the phone if Barry called.
I have to disagree with someone who posted earlier about being ok with a mediocre record for a couple of “rebuilding years”. If you are coming off of a Rose Bowl appearance you aren’t rebuilding and if someone trys to sell that to the fan base they will have already lost before they started.
You build on success, not rebuild.
Dispite what he might say, i would have to believe that the money was just too good to pass up at Arkansas for Beilema. An extra $700K a year for 4 years is a lot of money.

I believe Bielema has stated that he thinks the 2013 would be the best team he has ever had, and then he bolts. I wonder how much of this was just trying to get more money out of WI (see Les Miles), and Barry didn’t blink. Besides being in the SEC…is that job really better than WI??

WI needs a coach who thinks WI is a destination and not a stepping stone. I don’t like Bielema much but at least I thought he would stay and WI would stay competitive assuming he could keep good assistants around. Chryst is really the one guy I think that would make WI his permanent stop. As far as I understand, the top offensive recruits over the years have come to WI because of Chryst, not Bielema. Chryst walked into a terrible situation (not like a loaded team BB did) at Pitt and had an ok year with some big wins, bad loses, and almost beating ND.

Too bad at least so far he says he is staying at Pitt….I don’t like reading about Bevell and WI!!!!!!

Sometimes people, including coaches believe the things written about them. They think they are the reason for a teams success. (See Denny Green & Brad Childress)
