It’s my GF’s birthday next week Friday and we would like to take a road trip along the Mississippi on either the WI or MN side from Wabasha north to Hudson or further if it’s worth the drive.

We would like to find more of a small mom and pop type place, maybe a supper club, Italian, open for just about any type of food.

The Liberty in Redwing also has a great Friday Buffet and either quiet casual dining or Sports Bar atmosphere…

A start at Slippery’s, that’s a must do just to get in the icefishing spirit.

Nosh looks interesting, what kind of $$ are we talking?

Muddy Waters would be nice if they have music, maybe after Nosh.

Silver Star in Wabasha is good, Port 104 in Lake City, and if a good cheap burger and a beer B Wells in Frontenac.

If your going to Trempeleau try Sullivans supper club. I hear the food is great. Get there early, they do fill up fast.

If you are willing to head south. Beedles is in between Sullivan’s Supper Club and the Hillside Fish House.

    Nutz,

Do yourself a favor and take 93 south to Trempleau. Turn on Wi 35/54 and go east to the Hillside Fish House. Great food and atmosphere.

I think its hit and miss there….I live within walking distance from the Hillside, and the last few times I have been there it was the WORST service I have ever had and the food was terrible.

We have been to Sullivans, Hillside Fish House, and Beetles, all very good food.

Can anyone give me an idea of the prices at Nosh? Since we will be in Wabesha any suggestions for a small mom & pop type Italian place of a good Steakhouse anywhere along the River.

I like the catch it and grill it but I might end up Swimming With the Fishes if I try that!!!!!

I was going to suggest try saying Domino’s with a Italian accent but since she is a girl friend and not a wife she won’t see the humor in that.

Hope you guys end up finding someplace nice and do report back.

It would be hard to get out of Nosh for under $100 for 2 people if you both eat and have a couple drinks. They do seasonal foods, so you never really know what is going to be on the menu. It is worth a shot for a nice night out, but not for an everyday type of meal.

It’s looking like NOSH is going to be the place, unless we get off course which does happen with us.

She is itching to get on the ice and that may overide where we go!!!! Gotta love that she enjoys fishing as much as I do and sometimes she even out fishes me!!! This was her PB Perch last year. She put it back to be caught again because it was a momma fish and was full of eggs!!!! Guy fishing near us said what!!!! You put it back? This is the only pic I have of it, I have more video but I don’t know how you put video on here.

Well it took a while to report back but we had a nice dinner.

Started out in Wabesha with a Bloody Mary at Slippery’s. Have to say it was one of the worst we have ever had, the mix tasted old and kind of funky. From there we stopped at a little artisan bread place downtown and had coffee, a danish and bread pudding.

The GF had to stop at the thrift store across the street from the bread place so that was another 45 minutes of my life I will never get back!!!! Of course one of the ladies in there had to mention another thrift shop in Durrand, yea you guessed it, another stop in Durrand.

For dinner we decided to go to the Red Cedar Inn in Downsville, WI. It used to be the Creamery and has since been sold and reopened as the Red Cedar Inn. It has been nicely remodeled with a nice bar that has a decent selection of tap beers.

The menu was very limited but judging by the crowd the food should be good. For starters we had the Spinach Dip on toast, good choice!!!! We both decided on Steak, I had the Rib Eye topped with Mushrooms and Sherri had the New York Strip topped with Blue Cheese. Both were done to a perfect medium rare and were delicious. Sherri got a free piece of cheese cake for her birthday, it was ok but I’m used to real New York Style Cheese cake from the east coast having spent 20 years there.

Overall it was very good and we will be back there again. Prices were $21 – $22 for the steaks and drinks were normal priced. I give it 4 out of 5 stars!!
