Our current unit is 18 years old and is no longer working properly, yes its working just not doing its job. We have 21 grains of hardness it tested at 19 grains.

Looking at various options, we have a Culligan now, looking at the Kinnetico system also. Looked the various box store units but the reviews are less than steller.

    Opinions???

I personally would never buy another culligan. I got a sears unit in my rental for going on 7 years now with no issues.

Thinking with the money I saved with that unit I could replace it every 10 years.

I think the hardness is 18 where I am at.

Our daughter put in a Kinnetico this spring and it works well and uses almost no salt. They installed it in June and just refilled the salt tank for the first time.

I have a Kinnetico. Have had it for over 8 years now. Still working great and uses very little salt. My water is very hard with lots of iron in it. I had a Culligan before this. I will take the Kinnetico.

the majority of ALL units (except a few previous mentioned) all use the same basic (Head) control unit, which is really 90% of the water softners.

My dad sold and repaired water softners for over 30 years. The Units at Mills Fleet Farm are just as good as any softner out there. Same Control Head as the ones my dad sold and serviced. I’ve had one in my home for over 20 years, with no problems.

Simple to install and save quite a bit over going to the high end softners.

I bought a Water Boss at Menards a year ago and am more than satisfied with the cost and end product. Very easy to install also.

I have very hard well water. I had to replace my old rental and decided to buy my own. Kinetico is a good one , but they are pretty spendy. I bought a Ecowater system and have been very happy with it. Its in the basement has a control box upstairs in the kitchen to monitor water usage and salt levels. Thats nice because I dont have to go down and check salt every couple weeks.

i installed a morton system saver that i got at menards. i can’t remember the size, but it is the one rated for a 4 bedroom home. i looked at the water boss, which was recommended by a plumber relitive, but went with the morton as it was on sale. installation was easy, and i have been very happy with our water ever since. our well is about 65 feet deep and is rated very hard with a very high iron content. salt useage is less than the old culligan. to replace the culligan unit was $1200, the morton was about $400 + my time. the morton is all automatic, set it and add salt when needed.

The Manganese Greensand filtration or water softener?

Seems to me removing the undesired elements would be more beneficial like that of the Manganese Greensand filtration system rather than using a sodium ion exchange system that increases ones sodium intake.

I really do not know which would be best but looking at it at face value elimination is better than substitution.
