I am right with you. JJ is by far the worst sandwich I have ever eaten. 3 giant handfuls of lettuce that tasted like wet dirt, 3 ultra-thin slices of meat, a half a teaspoon of mayo, and a paper thin slice of cheese. I will say their bread is good, but the rest is just terrible.
I might vary from location to location, but the one here just absolutely sucks. I’d rather suck on a boot than eat there.
I would rather eat my fishing bait than waste my money at JJ. After eating 1/4 of their “sandwich”, the first time, I spent the afternoon no more than 2 steps from the throne. Second time(only because the wife wanted to eat there)-FOOD POISINING! Both my wife and myself! 2 different locations.

Potbelly!
I think their subs are better than JJ or Subway.
Potbelly is on a whole nother level! Yum!!!November 20, 2012 at 3:28 pm #1113597Is Divannis still around, they closed here in St Cloud…. their Hoagies were Excellant
November 20, 2012 at 4:00 pm #1113601Wasn’t there a Clarks sub place years back??
Don’t care for JJ, I tend to hit subway for the BLT version.
Used to have a Cousins where I worked and I liked their philly cheesesteak, double meat sandwich a lot.al

Yep, Lake Street in the Hi-Lake shopping center… Had a couple buddys who worked there back in the day and hooked us up bigtime on the weekends.
Atomic was the go to sub along with some decent Malts!Still like Davannis, although like most things not what they use to be…
I’m telling ya Firehouse Subs …there comin ..
November 20, 2012 at 5:41 pm #1113627Bread does make the Hoagie (East Coast term for a Sub Sandwich). JJ’s has great bread but lack terribly on the amount of cheese and meat that you get. Wawa on the east coast, the equivalent to a 7-11 makes a great hoagie with great bread.
If you get down to Waukegan area you have to try a Hoagie from Lenos. http://lenossubs.com/

I’ve had Firehouse subs. They aren’t anything special in my opinion. But then very few national chains are. Pretty hard to make something different when most the ingredients come from the same places.

In response to the guy who posted about local sandwich shops…
Nelson’s Cheese and Deli of 47 in Fridley/Spring Lake Park may still make the best sandwiches in the North Metro!
Do they have a store on Como Ave right across from the fairgrounds? I believe that store has the same name. If so I will agree, they have some tasty sandwiches. The Kansas City BBQ is a awesome sandwich.
November 20, 2012 at 6:02 pm #1113639I believe they do have one in St. Paul. Fantastic sandwiches and you can buy meat/cheese there too!
November 20, 2012 at 6:14 pm #1113643Not a huge fan of subs in general, but I can say I truly hate Subway. I have one two doors down from my shop. All I can smell every single day when I walk in the door is stinky Subway bread whiffing in through the walls, the ceiling, and every other hole it can find.
Speaking of Subway..Has anyone ever eaten one of their “grilled” chicken sandwiches in one form or another? That stuff looks so nasty…Cold processed chicken McNugget meat with fake grill marks.November 20, 2012 at 6:45 pm #1113648x2 on the Subways. For you folks who eat there, try this next time through. Open up your sub and remove one slice of the meat or cheese. Eat each individually without any sauces, mayo, s&p ect. There is darn near zero flavor in any of their product. Add to that the gelatinous slime that covers most of their meats is just plain gross.

November 20, 2012 at 7:09 pm #1113656How can a non-fishing topic last so long on a fishing web site?
November 20, 2012 at 7:10 pm #1113657All of this sub talk gave me a craving for that Cosetta’s Italian Hero. Had not been over there since the renovation was complete. Still a great sandwich!

No one hit the NMB?
November 20, 2012 at 7:17 pm #1113661I do LOVE the fake crabmeat.. I admit it. If I ever have the real thing, I probably wont’ even like it
November 20, 2012 at 7:24 pm #1113666I thought it would be good on pizza twice…the first and the last time.
Stunk like bad fish.
I agree, it is good eaten the way it was meant to be.
November 20, 2012 at 7:48 pm #1113684Briank that is because it is bad fish. made from polleck. i can’t stand the smell or taste of either.
November 20, 2012 at 8:21 pm #1113696A little off the subject but I thought I would contribute. If you are traveling through central Minnesota and on to the great white North… and you are looking for great sandwich. Try Nelson Brothers/food court at the Clearwater travel plaza. I highly recommend it. – Boogs

November 20, 2012 at 8:27 pm #1113700Down in KS and OK they have (had?) a chain called “Mr Goodcents Subs and pasta”.
Great soft rolls and all the meats and cheese’s were sliced from REAL stuff as you ordered……
Excellent!!!The pasta wasn’t bad either..
A regular stop for this truck driver (at the time)

I know there was a Sandwich GIANT in SSP…. we used to go to as a kid, would have been the early 70’s….
Sandwich Giant was the best ever but closed in the mid 90’s. Employee’s gave away too much food and ran them out of business.
