    Note to my council member….

Reading the paper this weekend….I could not help but chuckle…

Seat license fees – hmmmm. This really won’t sit well with MN Viking season ticket holders. Let me see – I have been a loyal season ticket holder since the 70’s and have gradually moved to the 50 yard line. Now you want me to pay $20,000-$50,000 for each of my 6 season tickets for the option to buy them? Nice.

My guess is this is the first of many surprises about how this stadium will get funded. We haven’t even touched the shortfalls from gaming, the hit to the general fund, the overages on the construction budget, the increases to add a retractable roof, etc. The list will go on and on…. All the result of a fast / poorly thought-out / weak negotiated deal by our elected officials.

I really hope the City of Minneapolis remains firm on its portion of the funding and can do better than push “surprises” to the taxpayers. It is a mess.

It is going to be interesting to watch this pay out – ( play out )

Stay strong and enjoy the holiday season.

Love the fact that the MN Taxpayers were thrown under the bus by their elected officials in such a poorly thought out plan for the funding of “The People’s Stadium”

It might, if the stadium is under construction and you get detoured while traveling on a fishing trip .

According to Morrie Lanning , ex representative from Moorhead Mn that was very instrumental in getting the bill passed, this is no surprise for any of the people that worked on this bill including Gov. Dayton. Daytons grandstanding in the news the last couple of days is nothing but blown smoke. According to Lanning this is very common with new stadiums and will have to be approved by the board, not sure of the boards name, that has final say on these sales.

Lets put a different spin on this topic….When I began working many years ago my employer had medical and dental ins as part of the package, it was free, no co-pay, no prescription co-pay, no caps on services provided.

Somewhere around the 1990’s we were introduced to co-pay and deductibles which created the same resenting attitude and remarks as I’m hearing here on the pay for your tickets issue. Honestly it pissed me off and many others thinking the company we work for can’t make us pay for something we assumed was going to be free. It was a convenient way for them to lessen their costs, increase profits and also pad the ins companies wallets, I STILL don’t care for it but it’s become socially accepted in many companies as normal for workers and insurance expenses.
Great ins. coverage costs more, so do great seats, good ins coverage is less, same with seats, and so on depending on how valuable you consider your coverage or seat of choice. It’s not about loyalty or length of service, it’s about the bottom line….profits. Younger individuals have come to recognize how things are today with very few issues, while many of us more mature ( don’t want to use the word old)are forced to accept change, adapt and move on.

I’m not saying charging for seats is right/good/bad it’s just the way it is. Excuse my rant here I’m only thinking from a different perspective, I’m not right or wrong just thinking out loud. Pk

What do you mean by “surprise”? It was in the bill that was passed. Dayton even said at the time “How they raise their money is up to them”. I’m not for it but that’s what most teams do now. Maybe Dems should learn to read bills before signing them.

One thing that should be noted is that the MN Vikings is a private business entity that has the specific goal of making a profit. You as a fan are the customer, you are not actually part of some mythical Vikings family, that’s marketing designed to get the customer to spend and help increase viewership and ad revenues.

What also should be noted is that we the people should not spending any public money on this. If we are going to subsidize x percent of this facility then we should get x percent of all revenues until that investment is paid back.

Every other business that cannot pay the rent with its revenues either finds cheaper facilities or goes bankrupt.

This stadium is by no means an engine of economic development and all the stadium supporters can take pride in the fact that they have to a certain degree raped the future of the children of the state of MN.

Roofless stadium in MN “PURE GENIUS”!

Chubby I’m with you on this, that is why I only occasionally watch on TV or listen on the radio which is free to me because I refuse to give them any more than they deserve. My tax dollars are plenty.

Crap like this will only stop when all of the sheep stop worshipping the NFL like they currently do. Stop giving piles of money and attention to the NFL/owners and they will stop pulling crap like this and stop holding taxpayers hostage. Simple as that.

The NFL thinks they’re too big to fail or play by the rules. Judging by the extremely short memory that most fans have in regards to the referee lockout (remember that whole thing? That must have been 5 years ago ), I can’t say I disagree with them.

If I had something to sell, and could charge an extra 20-50k for it I would in a second. Not saying its right or wrong, but I’m almost certain every business charges as much as they can for the products they offer. If somebody has an extra 20-50k to spend on season tickets I’m not feeling to sorry for them

Haven’t we moved on from this ? To think an NFL Team in any city is “just another private company” is extremely short sighted…. although it sounds good, it is far from anything resembling truth. Democrats should read bills and Republicans should show “some” grace in defeat

You have season tickets I assume?

Personally I think the queens and twins should both raise ticket prices to $2k a game, look at the tax dollars we might get from all that profit.

Nope, that is why I have “moved on” As long as Dayton & the Dems gets smeared, the Vikings get roasted and the fish keep biting, it should keep most members here at IDO happy in some form

    Total BS

Read the bill yourself. There are so many loopholes in the funding and how it will happen. There is no way they knew what they passed and how it would get PAID FOR….

They were all so proud of themselves for doing something

I love that your contact is an “ex”. Says plenty about his role in this mess.

Cripes Dog you made me re-read it twice. What in that statement is BS? The bill is full of loopholes? So this comes as a shock to who? That the Vikings want to charge PSL’s? Every team has either done it, or attempted it. I also don’t remember the name of the board he is referring to. But, the Wilfs are attempting to circumvent paying tax on the PSL’s by bypassing this board. If it was ran as part of the ticket, then taxes would need to be paid. Common knowledge that the Vikings are attempting (if they go through with the PSL’s) to dodge the taxes.

So, what part of this is BS?

    Could not agree more.

I am curious how many “representatives” are no longer elected officials that voted for this POS

    Gone and no longer accountable…

With HD TV available at home, the local tavern, etc., why would anyone spend big money for tickets, expecially for lousy seats?

If that’s your thing, great – go put on yellow and purple paint and have fun….

I’ll watch from home, thank you (if there’s nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon).
