If its sharp then its sharp, if its not then make it sharp. Simple as that.

Going fishing with dull hooks is like going duck hunting with blanks.

Unless its “sticky” sharp i wont use it, especially on ice jigs. If you set it on your fingernail it should sink in

A dull hook just isnt worth the chance imo

I have people ask me all the time if sharpening hooks is really THAT important in musky fishing. My answer is YES! absolutely.

I have actually started using a battery operated dremel in and out of the boat to sharpen hooks. I use the 952 cone shaped stone bit. It works amazingly well and I’ve found myself using it on a lot of my lighter tackle as well. Smallie jigs, walleye jigs and even my crappie stuff as well. Even on the smaller hooks you can still easily brush up the point from 3 different sides.

If you can drag the point of the jig over your fingernail then its too dull. A sharp point sould stop immediately, you should be able to feel the sharpness right off the bat.

Started sharpening all my hooks, and can’t see a reason why I would ever stop. Even the simple little gold hooks I grab for panfishing… nothing like a sharp hook to catch that lip on a light biter that would normally spit the hook and swim away. I use a simple little sharpening stone for now.
