I am looking for some recommendations on a good video editing software that will not bread the bank and is relatively easy to use. It will mostly be used to edit mp4 and m2ts (AVCHD)formats.

The next time you need a new computer I would look into MAC. They come with imovie and are a much more stable operating system than PC. Perhaps you can find a “previously enjoyed” MAC.

I’ll echo the same comments but leave out the “more stable” part…not that I disagree, but there are some that will. LOL!

I bought Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013 yesterday to start putting together some stuff from our 8 days on Vermilion last week. I had the Go-Pro running non stop while we were fishing. I have only played with it a little bit, but for $50 it has a ton of features.

There is a software package called Media Impression that comes free with a lot of the video cams out there. (Google “media impressions download free”)

Works well, easy to use for basic editing. Will work for all of those formats. Price is right too.

If you like FREE…..which will be a bit slower loading when rendering the clips you are editing.

If you are running windows XP, then microsoft movie maker came with that package. It is a simple video editing tool.

If you are running windows 7 I believe it “movie maker” is part of the FREE “Live” download bundle you can download from microsoft.

Personally I use pinnacle, which is the cats meow IMO.

You change the setting so it breaks the video up into 10-20 second segments. Then you drag the few segments you need into the bottom editing area and process. It “Should” save you lots of time because it doesn’t render the entire 37 minutes of video, only the 20-40 seconds you put in your movie.

I think I paid around $60 for that program and its a big time saver versus other software programs free and pay a like.

Thanks everyone! Going to go through some trial runs and see which one works best.
