Just wondering if anybody has used these for ice fishing and if they are slipery on ice? Had a pair of the alfa iceman and were very slipery on ice. Have been wearing the Old Ice Kings and they are very good on the ice, looking for something lighter.

Ice is slippery. I can’t say one boot is better than another to any significant degree but I did wear the Alphas last winter and was very, very pleased.

Prior I had been getting a couple months, max, out of Cabelas, Rockys, and Irish Setter boots before they started to leak like a sieve. The Alphas made it through all last winter and look like new at the start of this season.

IF traction on ice is a primary concern I’d recommend a pair of ice cleats. I hear good things about the Katoolas but most any ice cleat is better than none at all if you’re dealing with glare ice.

I think the most dangerous element in ice fishing is not falling thru the ice but falling on the ice. The older one is, the more profound the need to keep from falling. I always suggest getting the best of whatever one can afford but as James suggests, any cleat is better than none.

James will you be using the Alphas this year or are you trying something new?

Nope, for the first time in years the boots I wore in a previous season are in great shape to start another. I love how warm they proved to be last year and they managed to keep water OUT which was an area that other brands had failed at miserably for me. So, there’s no reason to change.

My ice kings are going on season 3 or 4 – still no problems and they are very warm. Gore Tex and ice fishing boots do not mix.

I am on year 8+ with mine. Granted I don’t run and gun ice fish as much as James, but they kept my feet warm all weekend in the tree stand

I have the LAIK’s as well. Bulky, but they are nice and warm. I wear SmartWool socks with them and my feet stay dry.

If you sign up for Amazons “Shoe Subscription” they’ll give you 20% for you next shoe purchase. I bought mine from Amazon.
