HD Camcorder recommendations?

    I am looking to get my wife an HD camcorder for her birthday. We have a 12 week old, so most of the use would revolve around her. It doesn’t need to be fancy. Looking at prices around or below $300. Would like to hear recommendations or products to stay away from.
