I usually don’t like going on a public forum, and ripping into small local businesses but sometimes the ignorance of people pushes me over the edge.

My wife and are staying at a buddies condo for a little vacation in crosslake. Als is right behind the condo, and they are supposed to let owners and visitors of the condos launch their boats. I walked over there to let them know I would be launching and that I am staying at the condos.

The lady behind the counter asks me what body of water I was last on. The Mississippi River. Oh my god, you would have thought that I was committing murder. The lady and another guy were all up in arms that I was even considering putting my boat into their lake. the proceeded to tell me to go launch somewhere else because they didn’t want any part of me ruining their lake.

I told them that there have been thousands of boats before mine that had been in “infested” waters and still launched in crosslake. These guys are complete idiots. I am still absolutely amazed at their ignorance, and how well the DNR has gotten people to believe that zebra muscles are potentially the next locust plague. WTF.

That sounds like a small isolated town panic attack to me as well. Lessoned learned for the rest of us though. Last lake used? Why this very lake mam.

You should have responded, “No wait. I mean Pelican was the last lake I was on”.

If you can’t put it in their lake, where are you supposed to wash off all of those living zeebs that fell in your boat with the rain?

You should have tossed your minnow bucket water at them to see if they melted.

I smuggled an entire family of sea otters into Christmas Lake last week. That will cause a good show, endangered invasive species.

No need to throw them in the lake. The Mute Swans will eat them all.

Has anybody ever actually seen a zeeb come out of Pool2? Due to my remarkable jigging skills, I manage to dredge up all kinds of stuff off the bottom. Tin cans, rocks, sticks, logs. Never have seen anything except mud and slime. Last year I snagged a tire with my anchor, it was clean too.

BTW: Drew I would have pointed out 1) I wouldn’t be spending another slim dime around her establishment, and 2) There’s this thing out there called the Internet, bad news travels at the speed of light (or whatever my dial up does today).

I also have the gift Rootski talks about. I have never seen any in pool 2. I have gotten some logs to the surface with cat gear and nary zeeb. I also wade in spring lake and my feet are still intact.

Yes, I have snagged one or two. Come to think of it, though, it was just above the Ford Dam, so I guess that is P1.

Brad, what makes you think the DNR is looking at ZM this way? My opinion is that the sky is falling message is coming from a few overly zealous outspoken folks who are seeing this as doom and gloom. I think most DNR see this as something that might be impossible to even slow down. It is becoming politically correct for lake associations to harass local officials with misinformation.

buzz I have first hand experience that the DNR is very much “afraid” and skewing the publics views on the “invasive species.” I have the $130 ticket to prove it.

Guess there where two found near down town this summer by divers looking for them. This was part of some federal meeting going on there in regards to condition of the river.

Red, IMHO that’s like saying getting a parking ticket means the meter maids have formed a conspiracy to scare the public and increase paranoia about parking. If a CO gives out a ticket, they are only following a set laws that were made by the legislature. The DNR does not make these laws, they are however required to carry them out. It’s a trickle down thing. I just wish we can get the same folks that are putting pressure on the Legislature to “Save Our Lake” to take a similar position on Asian Carp and help us get a barrier.

Not true Buzz. The laws are open to interpretation and allow the CO’s some leniency. On this matter they are going overboard.

(LOL) So, the whole AIS issue was created by unsympathetic Conservation Officers who choose to enforce the rules, rather then recognize the rules as silly, stupid and meaningless?

Not at all. But when you hear stories like CO’s nailing guys for putting in their plugs 1 block away from the landing (X2). You think they have gone to far. FWIW the sponging out the hull thing is absurd.

    Who’s “us”????

It would be nice if things “trickled up” as fast as they trickle down.

Help us get a barrier, lets see the DNR, Me, almost all Conservation and Eco groups, Senator’s K & E, Mark Dayton, City and County officials especially the river towns, U of M., both MN House and Senate; just to name a few. But of course they are all mistaken.
