NAFC . . . hah. Most guys will tell you it’s a joke. I personally haven’t done it, so I have no horse in the race.

As far as magazines go, most of them just recycle the same articles season after season. There’s really not much new stuff in the magazines. IMO, forums like this one have made the magazines pretty much obsolete because of the instant dissemination of current patterns and techniques.

That said, it’s kind of fun to shuffle through my old In-Fisheman mags from 10 or 15 years ago and see what the trends were back then and what kinds of products were the ‘hot new thing’ and if they’ve stood the test of time. Those Lindner boys sure could sell lures.

    Total waste of time…..imho.

They will try and sucker you in with offers for free stuff. If you join, you will quickly find out its not free after all.

Its only free if you sign up to buy books or other stuff from them on a regular basis. Another words, its not really free stuff after all.

Put it this way. I worked there in the mail room back in the early 90s. Even then I wasn’t a member. Since then the Burkes were bought out by some international company, although I believe some still work there.

It might be OK if you do a lot of trip swapping, but other than that I am not so sure. Then again, maybe it has changed.

On a side note, I swore I saw Steve Pennaz wandering down by the Hidden Falls boat launch last spring and he asked if we were catching any.

Oh I forgot, I did get the book series for free. I took the damaged ones.

I’m with Lhprop on magazines. I end up kicking myself every time I buy one and I seldom read even 50% of it. Same generalized patterns recycled every year, which shouldn’t be surprising. After all, it wouldn’t be a pattern if it changed.

Everything is so generalized as it has to be. But some lakes you won’t find the spring panfish in a shallow NE bay. Every body of water has its own unique patterns and movements.

Even when discussing new techniques and tackle, I find I can find it online before a mag publishes an article on it and glean better information.

I returned their invitation to see what might happen. I was supposed to get some free stuff. Fish weigh scale, 2 filet knives. Scale looked cheap and you never know about knives. There was also supposed to be a $20 gas voucher. This turned out to be (4) $5 gas vouchers that were for different quarters and had to be mailed in individually. I did get one magazine that was very skinny and was for 2 months. But the real quarker was that they wanted me to pay for 2 years. I sent back the invoice marked CANCEL.

The answer to your question would be NO!!!unless you like a LOT of junk mail, offering all kinds of “free” stuff, which ends up being things you would never have a use for.
I also worked there, so I have seen the products they tout as “good” – maybe in a third world country.
Stve Pennaz is no longer with NAFC- wink, wink…

if you like getting magazines 90% ads and regurgitated fishing tactics, and receiving products that you probably don’t need and bills for them out of the blue, this is the club for you.

Back in the mid 90’s I joined for a while. I once got a “bill” for something I never ordered. Canceled my memership right away.

Is there really something out there besides IDO? As stated, not worth it unless you need a lot of scrap paper for starting a fire.

During election season, there’s never a shortage of that clogging up your mail box.

No kidding – If they applied a quarter of the amount spent on mailings, phone campaigns, TV ads,.. they could put a heck of a dent in the national debt. Wish they would put true spending caps on election processes. Give the better guy withoiut the financial backing a fighting chance. Its a shame there are so many better canidates out there that will never be recognized.

I joined for a short time and they sent me stuff to review than expected me to send it back or pay for it. I quit and would never recommend them to anyone.

Well sure are alot of thoughts out there. Ummmm, I became a lifetime member 10+ years ago. Paid a one time price $220 and recieved a nice rod and reel in a case. They dont bug me very often. I did recieve as a member a poncho to try and commet on . I kept the poncho as a gift. As for the mag,Im of limited knowledge so the mag is very informative ( of course not as much as IDO). I have had a good experience with them. Im not saying folks are wrong, just sayin its been fine for me…..Thanks Wil

Hum, up until Will, there seems to be a whole lot of Negative Nettieā€™s out there.
From what I read the thought came to my mind.

Don’t expect much if you don’t do much.
Now “do” can relate to many things, effort, money, thought, time,,,, this can go on and on in my opinion.

You have to be a lifetime member to test and keep the “free gifts”. Otherwise you have to pay retail price or send it back after testing, along with your survey. Even a $4.99 crankbait will have to be sent back or payed for after trying. If you lose it, you pay for it… unless you are a lifetime member, then you get to keep what you test.

A buddy of mine did it. They sent him a $15 shakespeare spincast combo to test (he did the bass sticker). Then he had to pay $15 in shipping to send it back to them. What a nice “free gift” huh?

North American fishing club is a joke. Nothing but useless crap.its like spam on paper. I get outdoor news( weekly paper.) I don’t know if they offer it by region or state. Minnesota sportsman and in fisherman are ok also.
