Planted my tree in the front yard last Sunday. Two feet down it was still nothing but dust. Forecast is calling for some sort of rain for 7 of the next 10 days. Sure hope it is right. Love drizzly fall days to hunt and fish.

I would still let the garden hose water it, if it stays dry the tree will have a hard time this winter and may dry up in the spring.

Just put the hose back on it. It will be 2 times a day for a while now unless its poring outside. It was so dry in the hole it was hard to get the water to soak into it. Wanted to pool up on spots and just run off.

My neighbor has been digging post holes and told me he is seeing no sign of moister even 3 to 4 feet down.

Started to do some tiling out in the field and I dug down 5ft and it was dry as a bone. I would keep watering the trees.

Mike, we were shearing pins on a 3-point -12″ auger off the back of my tractor. This dry ground is worse than hitting rocks. Though the 3.5″ we got down here helped a little.

Mike, don’t forget to talk & sing to your tree…rumor has it the roots will grow faster

Plan on some very deep frost and the problems that go with it if you don’t some sub-soil moisture or a deep snow pack this winter.

If there is no moisture in the ground, you don’t get frost heaves. It is the moisture that expands when frozen and pushes stuff around. Dry years may have a deeper depth of “cold”, but not the ice to contend with.

Randy, I was talking about when there is no or little moisture in the ground, the cold/frost goes deep causing water mains to freeze and burst.

Sure looks like that rain is doing a good job of circling the Twin Cities. Just some lite mists here. Would be nice to see something that would at least make the ground wet.

We had a nice sprinkle this AM at our house, but just 2 miles south in town the streets were barely wet.

Well it sure wasn’t circling about 4am when because we’re having our bathroom redone I had to go use the portapotty in the back yard..
