Saugerama question?

    Hey guys,
How “professional” is this tourney? I have never fished a tourney and really have no business being in one based on my fishing success. It sounds like lots of fun but I don’t want to look like an at the weigh in when I show up with zero fish! So, any input from past contestants of how intense this event is. Is it only for guys who know their sh*t or also for those guys who just like to shoot the sh*t?

It’s a fun event. I think every torunament fisherman has zeroed a tourney before. I did it on my home water before but still had fun. There will always be people who think these tournies are the FLW championship but as long as you have fun who cares.

It’s a pretty laid back tourney granted there is a small amount of money involved I believe the saugerama is more about bragging rights

You’ll see every skill level here and every boat size. There will likely be a pro or two, there will also be several anglers who are fishing a tournament for the first time. The entry fee is right if you have never tried a tournament before or a tournament on the river. With Skeeter putting $2000 out there to the winner if they fish from a Skeeter, you might see a few extra entries from Skeeter owners. Either way you can still have fun if you want too! Best of luck.

I have zero’d more times than I’l admit here on IDO, but I can tell you I always have fun trying (less the few times the conditions tested my better judgement )
    Have questions, just ask.
They are usually laid back. No presure at ramps, plenty of cold one’s afterwards along with good people!
Give it a try and have some fun doing so.

All good fun, don’t feel the pressure to race out at take off and enjoy the day!

Like others have mentioned, very laid back and easy going. Being you weigh in 8 saugers anyone really has a chance to do well.
Its more about a day of fishing with buddies and seeing old friends and making new ones than it is about making money. There is a bunch of drawings afterwards that pretty much anyone who sticks around will get something.
Give it a shot, I bet you will have a good time fish or no fish!

Any other questions feel free to ask

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I will be signing up. Got a buddy to be my co-angler and will be there to have a good time. Not too worried about takeoff since I only have 60hp behind me. Prob just pull over and get the hell out the way for the big boys. 8 sauger weigh-in sounds a bit intimidating since that is usually my catch in a whole fall of fishing but oh well It should be a fun time regardless.

I’ve been fishing it for 3 years now and it’s really fun. Be careful not to catch all the fish prefishing the day before and be careful not to find a striper bite on a wingdam throwing crankbaits, but it’s only a $25.00 entry. It’s a great time in the fall to spend fishing. Don’t be intimated by those guys in the fancy Skeeter boats, either.

…and whatever you do, do not go heavier than a 1/4 oz floating jig!!

Thanks for the tip on the weight of floaters BK! I was gonna tie up with 1/2 oz floaters but will definately make the change to 1/4 oz

LOL! Yeah, the 1/4 oz work better then the 1/2. I found green to be the most productive color, too:) I was squirrel hunting last night, otherwise I would’ve commented sooner.
