Lake Sarah in the West Metro looked like that the last time I was there approx 4-years ago.

Probably what Lake Independence looks like.

Way too many lakes starting to look like that in July & August after all the LAke Shore Owners get their DNR Permits to kill off all the Weeds, which IMHO they use too much Chemical and Kill off way more than the Permits should allow.

The Weeds the Die and foster Algae Blooms and the associated STENCH!

The area around Ramsey county gets treated four and five times a year to kill the weeds. The DNR tells me that they only kill a 50 x 50 foot section, and when I told him that the company uses a firehose and they spray seventy percent of the lake, he called me a liar.

When they spray, it absolutely kills the shallow water fishing for a week to ten days, so you have nearly a month of the growing season with sick, under weight fish. The guy at the DNR said they are always hearing complaints from the shore owners, but never any from the fishermen. I was the only guy who called to complain. That’s why they give out permits like gumdrops. If enough of us complained about it, they might cut back on the spraying.

I remember before they sprayed Owasso four times a summer, it had great cabbage beds, clear water and phenomenal musky fishing. Now, not so much.

Fertilize runnoff is the main factor and that’s not going away in the future.
