Just planning to go see my daughter in Kalamazoo, driving from Minneapolis.

Why such a difference in Times between Google and Bing Maps?
    Bing: 555.5 mi, 8 hr 18 min driving = 67mpg average
    Google: 554 mi, 9 hours 54 mins driving = 56 mph average

Per my calculations Bing must figure you can drive the exact speed limit plus straight thru while google must estimate (gas & food) breaks, etc.
    a 1 hour 36 minute difference.

I’ve driven it a few times with the I-Pass (so we drive non-stop thru the Toll Highway in Chicago) and it takes all of 9 1/2 – 10 hours with breaks & I by no means drive like a grandpa, my right foot is plenty heavy.

Any other ideas why such a difference?

Goggle takes into account traffic at the time, bing does not. Google is telling you the traffic in chicago sucks and it will take you a lot longer.

I just ran a trip that I have made close to 25 times in the last 11 years that is very similar to yours.

The stated mileage is about dead on, 563 miles.

    Google: 10 hours 10 mins

    Bing: 8 hours 29 mins

I make this trip in almost 9 hours just about every time. Same stops for gas and food each trip and I have the I Pass too. I also run minimum 10 mph over also always and we don’t mess around at stops either. Only once was I close to the 8 hours 30 minute mark, this was eating in the car, middle of the night and hauling . It was pre I Pass days though.

I would say Google is close if you run the speed limit, but Bing is not realistic.

Most importantly have a safe trip.

what I find amazing is how or who, determines the “best way”.. for years the best way from LaCrosse to Eau Claire was hy 53.. now your maps insist on taking 93.. most of which does not involve taking the interstate..

for years the direct route to Birmingham from Milwaukee was I-94 through downtown Chicago, and then take I-65 right to Birmingham.. now mapquest wants you to take 43 through Illinois which is a road that I would rather have scratches on a blackboard being played on a cd then ever driving again.. I wonder who gets paid to make these calls.. and how much under the table cash influences these decisions..

Bing thinks you’ll use their maps more if they estimate a shorter travel time.

I always use google maps but never consider the time they say because its always way off. I travel from Big Lake to Grand Rapids every weekend. 71 in a 65 and 61 in a 55, takes 2hr 25min. Google says 3hr 7min, Bing 2hr 53min. If I plug it into my garmin its spot on for time.

So my answer to your question is….I have no clue why their time is always much longer!
