So, I wandered out to my boat Monday evening after work, noticing that my front snap cover was peeled back. I scratched my head a bit, and stepped around to re-snap it, and found my manual for my trolling motor on the ground? Took me a second. Then I glanced up and guess what. No trolling motor. I HAD a Terrova 80# with iPilot and US2 sonar.

Yep, some dirty rotten @#$@#%^(!@()!@% thieves cut my padlock and swiped my Terrova 80#. After some cussing and swearing, I called the cops (not that that did a lot of good, except a cop in my yard scratching his head), then call my insurance company. After convincing them that basing the replacement value of my trolling motor on Amazon.Com wasn’t a great idea in the event of the need for having any service or warranty issues done, I finally got them to give me the local retail value of the motor.

What a *#@&%^ rigamarole to have to go thru.

    So my alert is two-fold.
#1) If anyone is offered a Terrova 80# with only the foot control and not the remote, PLEASE send me a message with the contact information so I can sic the cops on them.
#2) lock your boats inside or at least pull your trolling motor off your boat when not in use as these thieves are prepared with clippers capable of cutting padlocks and probably security cables.

Thank God I had some good insurance. Doesn’t change the fact I have to foot over the bill for the deductible tho. Even tho I had insurance, the damned thieves still managed to get into my pocket book.

when someone catches up with these guys, those clippers should be tested to see if they are capable of removing theives’ thumbs

Those clippers are commonly referred to as “universal padlock keys”. They will cut about any padlock around.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I’ll keep my eyes open.

They wont cut mine. I have one in the garage that has to be 50 years old. It is 1″ dia stainless steel. Going to take a pneumatic cutter or a torch to cut through that thing. Thats why I dont use it, if I ever lose the key I am SOL.

Going to bed the other night, I noticed people in my shed stealing things. I phoned the police but was told no one was in the area to help. T hey said they would send someone over as soon as possible.

I hung up. A minute later I rang again. ”Hello,” I said, “I called you a minute ago because there were people in my shed. You don’t have to hurry now, because I’ve shot them.”

Within minutes there were half a dozen police cards in the area plus helicopters and an armed response unit. They caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the officers said, “I thought you said you’d shot them?”

To which I replied, “I thought you said there was no on available.”

I’m in Anoka/Andover, but according to Thorn Bros, they have heard of at least 5 stolen Terrovas in the last 3 weeks.
