Grand Cherokee + Otter Cabin

Been looking at trucks a lot lately as I want to get a small bass boat in the future, and figured I need a V8. Saw a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7 v8 HO motor cheaper than most of the trucks I have seen.
I know a truck would probably be better, but can someone tell me if an Otter Cabin would fit in the back of that jeep?
Also, if you have had this particular jeep/motor could you tell me how you liked it, maybe what kind of MPG you got.
    Thanks,

My buddy bought my old Otter Cabin and fits it in a late 90’s Jeep Cherokee. He has the push the seats about 1/4 forward to fit it.

You can always use a hitch rack too. I built one to fit my Lodge last year and love it so much. No more trying to lift it solo in my truck bed, just cover and ratchet strap.

Ive got a 2008 jeep GC and have been thinking the same thing. I think the closed length of the cabin is 56″ and when I measured it it seemed that I would have enough room (with the seats down) but you may have to put it up pretty far.

I’m 98% sure it would fit.

The changed the style in 2005 to the WK style, which is what I have. I love the vehicle. That 4.7 should be a good motor. Ive got the 3.0 CRD diesel in mine and wouldnt trade it for anything.

I had a 2005 GC with the 4.7. Was a good puller but not the best gas mileage. I got about 19 on the highway and 12 towing an 18 foot alumacraft. Wasn’t the best at stopping with the boat behind it. I liked the vehicle except I had a few annoying issues with it. The stereo wouldn’t eject CDs, the lights in the center console went out one by one which required the replacement of the entire section of the dash, the rear windshield wiper arm fell off, and one door speaker blew out 4 times in the first 3 years. There were probably a few other minor things I’m not remembering.

All that being said, it was comfortable to drive, and would pretty much go through anything. It had the full time all wheel drive. I pulled a 20 foot enclosed trailer with snowblowers and an ATV through an 18 inch snowfall and never came close to getting stuck.

I have a 2 person Clam flip over that fit in the back with room to spare, and my strikemaster would fit along side it. I think I hauled a buddies older otter cabin once as well if I remember correctly.

19mpg hwy seems pretty good for a v8 john. My ranger gets about the same. I don’t know if any trucks besides the newer ones get any better mileage, and i don’t feel like spending $30,000. Its rated higher than f150’s which is what I have been looking at mostly.
Wouldn’t one that isn’t AWD also get slightly better?
I know the HO motor has more horsepower than the regular 4.7 so I was concerned that might get worse mileage.

I switched to an F-150 if that means anything. Bigger V-8 and better gas mileage both highway and towing. But, comparing an 09 F-150 to an 05 GC is kind of apples to oranges so not really a fair comparison.

My buddy could put on in his 02′ GC. He also made a rack that went into his receiver to hold another otter. Not just a flat one its was all 1.5-2″ pipe and it cradled the house then strapped across the top. It was slick!!

As far as a GC goes hands down best bang for you buck used vehicle 99-04′ $5-9k. Very dependable vehicle, my cousin’s wife has 230k on her 99′ v8 and have had no major repairs.

With gas mileage being very comparable, why not just get the truck and then never have to worry about if it will fit or not?

I have a 97 GC with the 4.0 and have hauled quite a few different portables. Sometimes you just need to move the front seats ahead a little bit. That motor is a decent tower and gets 17-21 depending on time of year and what you are doing. I love them and if anyone is interested I am selling mine. I don’t remember for sure but I think it has close to 200K. I just don’t drive it anymore because we have a truck and a wagon. PM me if interested, I don’t want a lot for it(my opinion).
