Wondering if anyone else has the problem of reeling in the lures minus the tail section? This seems very common with the colors w. chartruese tail sections? While I dont want to complain about bites…I would like to convert these bites into hook-ups.

So far I’ve had it happen twice in the year since they’ve been out. I wasn’t fishing a chartreuse tail pattern either time.

Take one of the baits and give that tail section a pull. Is there an adhesion issue between the colors? Meaning, does the bait separate easily where the two colors meet? I’ve not heard of any adhesion issues but it can’t hurt to check.

That is pretty common with any bait that has a separate color tail, if the two colors were poured instead of the tail dyed. The tails are poured then the body is poured to adhere to the tail by the residual heat. If the body color is not poured hot enough there is a slight weak spot there at the connection. 5-10 degrees can make the difference between a solid connection and one week enough that if a fish holds onto the tail and you set the hook it will rip off.

I never buy baits with chart/red tips, I just use dye to make my own. And if I do have to buy one with a chart tip, for instance black with a chart tipped tail, I will hit the connection with some mend-it.

I had it happend twice Friday and I was using pro blue…I was thinking it was short strikes..so I started to pause just a second on setting the hook and it didn’t happen again..I also pinched about a half inch off the head to shorten the bait

I have done the same thing! I do this quite often with the ring worms also if I have trouble w/hookups and short hits.

The only time I’ve had problems with Pulse-R tails is when I’ve been catching bass and they jump. Most of the time then the tail gets snapped off.
I figure it’s a small price to pay for a nice bass but does get annoying when a lot of small ones start ruining your Pulse-R’s.

I had similar experiences my first time using pulse-r up north this June on Rainy. I was using it in areas with mixed pike and walleye. Didn’t know if I had pike taking the tale off or just a short hit followed by an attempted hook set.

    Thanks for the info guys!

The thing is, if they beef up the material in the tail section, it will change the action. I’ll take the trade off of having tails break off. Man do these baits catch fish!
