Is Gander Mountain screwed up or what?

Stopped at Gander Mountain in Woodbury after work Friday. I wanted to sign up for a shotgun they were giving away. The add that had the giveaway had been out for a full week. When I got to the store I asked a guy at the front of the store where is the signup for the shotgun? He told me to go to the gun department, that they should know. I asked a guy behind the gun counter where the sign up for the shotgun was. He looked at me with this puzzled look like I was from Mars or something. He was clueless. He said to show him in the add where it says they are giving away a shotgun. I started to page thru the add and 4 pages into it there was the info about the gun giveaway. He asked the other guys working the gun counter if they knew where the signup was. Nobody knew anything. He calls the store manager on his microphone ear piece and he didn’t know anything either. Then he makes a smart [censored] remark. You’ll probably win it since nobody can sign up for it
I wandered around the store for 10 minutes and went back to the gun counter and the wouldn’t even acknowledge that I was there. So I went up front to the customer service counter and asked a gal up there if she knew where to sign up and she was just as clueless as the rest of the them. When I got home I cakked there 1-800 customer service # and the lady there didn’t know anything either.
    What a screwed up outfit.

Thats nothing new for that store, I got the same response when they supposedly had a rapala sale for the 4th of july. The guys in the fishing department had no idea what I was talking about and said if I couldnt see it then it was sold out even though it was the first day of the sale. their customer service is a joke.

First off don’t think I’m defending them because I’m not. But, the ball was dropped somewhere up the chain of command. I’m positive that Gander Mountain does not let the department employee’s write their ads. Somewhere in corporate the give away was devised. So between there and the Woodbury sales staff is where the ball got dropped. Call another store and ask if they know about it. If they do find out who their regional guy is. (the guy the store manager answers to) If he is the same guy as Woodbury then the ball got dropped by the Woodbury manager.

If it concerns you that much there is a way to track it down. Myself……….I go to Joe’s or someplace small and just buy the gun.

Sounds like false advertising to me.. they are just trying to get you into the store so you hopefully buy something else. Report the ad to the BBB

EVERY “big box” store has gone this way. All they are concerned with is their bottom line. It is clearly evident that they hire “warm bodies” to tend the store. Im surprised the shelves get stocked, but then many times what I’m looking for is missing from the shelf.

I can personally say I will shop the service over the price when possible. Customer service is beginning to become quite rare, sadly.

Just one guy’s opinion here, but you are so right. Gander Mt. really DOES have their head up their #%$*!!!!! I won’t buy anything there anymore, seems like most of their ads are nothing more than a bait & switch.

X3 Worst customer service consistently. They rarely have what you want and they obviously don’t care. I could site multiple examples of the stupidity they excersise. Wow, what a bunch of buffoons!

    NO DOUBT! LOL

If I go to GM for 5 common things they won’t have 2 or 3 of them it seems and the wrong size of the 4th thing I want. I rarely stop at GM anymore.

I agree that every big box store is Jacked up… I went to scheels in Mankato to purchase a stoeger m3500 automatic that is in there add for 550 bucks. To make a long story short asked around and asked around about where this shotgun was and come to find out they don’t sell it there just sell over and unders by stoeger.. WTF is this their way to pull me in the store hoping I will buy something else?? Well keep hoping I will now quit buying from big box stores and support the little ma’s and pap’s stores unless an emergency..

their all about the money, you can tell what has the largest margins in the store by the floor space it gets, and keeps getting.

Their on-line store has gotten a lot better. I’m not a big fan of Gander, but I will say that most of the time when I stop at Cabela’s, they don’t have what I’m looking for either.

It would be nice if Gander could be counted on for stuff when I need it, but it is what it is. They need to make a profit, and it is very apparent that the way to make a profit is clothing. Cabela’s is going the same route.

I don’t really need Gander when Dean’s Tackle Box is only a mouse click away. I’ve never found him to not be able to get whatever I need.

Something doesn’t smell right about this post. You actually caught more than 1 GM employee in a single visit?

In my experience, the employees are all over when you don’t need them, but when you try and find one, they scatter like flies.

Man, I thought everyone knew that the only reason you ask a Gander Mtn employee anything is if you’re looking for a laugh. My favorite Gander Moment was when one of the guys at the gun counter told me, in all seriousness, that most experts (like himself, presumably) consider the 300 Win to be a little on the light side for elk.

I really miss the Sportsmans warehouse in Woodbury. There was no need to bother with Gander Mtn at all, even for the store brand generic stuff like plastics.

Obviously, there’s some breakdown in promo communications between HQ and the store level.

I don’t know what I’d do if either Joe’s or Fleet pulled out of the east metro. Paying Gander’s redicilous prices for everything would get old in a hurry.

I was at the local Gander last week. it took me 45 minutes to try and find the crankbaits I was looking for. but in the mean time, I was looking at the rods. the kid came up to me and said to “shake the rod” and that will tell me the action. Hmmm. enough said.
