So I ran low on oil fishing Minnetonka a week or so ago. Limped over to one of the marinas by trolling motor and got some oil. Since then my oil warning alarm is coming on at startup and at low RPMs while traveling through no wakes etc. anyone else have this problem? Possible oil pump issue or something else? As soon as I return to somewhat higher RPms the light goes off. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

know when you fill up your vehicle to “Fast” it takes along time for it to register correctly on the gage..! wondering about the oil sending unit on the 225, can you unplug it and plug it back in? a thought and cheap

I’ll bet your reserve tank is low on oil. Remove your motor cowl and fill it back up. That should fix it.

Check the tanks, makes sure they are full.. then purge the lines and make sure there is no air in your lines. If you literally ran it out of oil there might be an air pocket in there that is messing with you.

Dumped a gallon of oil in the tank as soon as I could. How would one bleed air from an oil line? I bet that is the culprit.

There should be a screw on your oil pump. Loosen it until oil comes out. Make sure the engine is off when you do this. You may have to have the cap off your res so the oil flows.

The correct way to bleed the optimax oil system is. Start engine with cowling off then slightly open the cap on the engine mounted oil tank until oil comes out, then snug cap. Done. Be SUPER CAREFUL not to overtighten cap, the threads can strip easy! In my case and many others, the threads were faulty to begin with and the pressure from the oil system popped the cap and made a HUGE mess. Mercury has just this year changed the design, yet refused to pay for repairs.

That is another way of doing it, but it does not always work. Purging using the purge screw on the pump works every time.

Make sure your oil tank cap is tight, Opti`s use crankcase pressure to the oil tank to feed oil to the engine they do not have an oil pump per-say. Bleed system as mentioned above.
