Leave your hat on for Happy Birthday…especially if it is your birthday.
I would recommend taking your hat off at any funeral, wedding, or when you are eating at a table where there is silverwear, etc.
Short of that – keep you hat on!!!!

I will ALWAYS remove my hat for the national anthem and expect others do the same….but I can honestly say I was not aware that it was disrespectful to leave your hat on for God Bless America.
Honest question, are there other songs/anthems that follow these same lines?
I’m with you, Hemi. Star Spangled Banner, first flag in a parade, etc . . . hats off.
As for “patriotic songs”, when does it stop? Do I have to also take my hat of for My Country Tis of Thee (even though it’s based on ‘God Save the Queen), God Bless the USA, Yankee Doodle Dandy? What about that Toby Keith song where he talks about puttin a boot in yer ? Do I have to take my hat off every time I see a car with a flag bumper sticker?
If I do, my arm might just fall off.

I don’t go to many games to begin with so I don’t even know if I would catch myself being disrespectful during that song/anthem.

By some, this might lump you into the group as having bad parenting.

I actually removed a comment in my post along the lines of these other posts suggesting I was brought up by bad parenting. I would say I was fortunate to have the parenting and values that I was brought up with, and plan on passing along to my daughter and son.
Grouse, I was referring to other patriotic acts/anthems that it would be disrespectful to leave a hat on. Who would wear a hat to a funeral…certainly not myself?
Although I will admit, I will wear a hat indoors…generally speaking!
I’m with lhprop1 on this one. Where does it stop? BK also makes a good point on it taking away from the National Anthem if you take your hat off for everything. I find it odd that some of the people crying foul are some of the same that will bash the President. Isn’t that unpatriotic?

Your picture is fake…see how easy that is???
From the Washington Post…a MN Twins connection!
Apparently the courts don’t see God Bless America as something we need to hold it for….so to speak.
How to Thwart God Bless America
Ever wondered how you can countervene God Bless America, the seminal song of American folk lore and, in more recent years, an extended break between the top and bottom half of the seventh inning at Yankee Stadium? It takes a lawsuit.
According to the New York Post, Bradford Campeau-Laurion, a Red Sox fan who happens to live in Queens, sued the Yankees and New York City after being thrown out of a game last year when he got up to use the restroom halfway through the incredibly elongated, live version of God Bless America that the Yankees trot out every game.
During a game last season, Campeau-Laurion left his seat during the song, “violating” a call for fans to be still for the patriotic anthem. He was quickly thrown out of the stadium by two uniformed New York police officers, one of whom told him to, “Get out of my country.”
The suit clears the way for fans to get up and use the restroom whenever the want during a game, which, of course, they should have been able to do already. The ruling also made Campeau-Laurion a somewhat richer man, earning $10,001 from the city for the behavior of the officers.
Hey, maybe now he can afford a seat to one of the Yankees-Red Sox games in August!
As much as it may seem bizarre and out of the blue, the lawsuit isn’t the first time the Yankees’ performance of God Bless America has come under fire.
The team began having performers play God Bless America back in 2001, after 9/11, and the move immediately earned the organization plaudits for its patriotism and decorum. But when the team continued to play the song every game the next year, opponents began complaining about the lengthy delay it causes so late in a game. Perhaps most notably, then Twins ace Johan Santana and his former manager, Ron Gardenhire complained about it more than once in 2004, claiming that it was a significant tactical advantage for New York.

at Miller Park the P.A. announcer asks everyone to rise and remove their hats before the National Anthem at the start of the game. during the 7th inning stretch he asks everyone to rise for God Bless America (no request to remove hats). apparently the Brewers get the difference…
i served. and with a nod to Lee Greenwood “i’d glady stand up next to you and defend her still today” but i don’t have to “prove” my patriotism to anyone, not ever. especially not by taking my hat off during a nice patriotic song. if you choose to do so, that’s cool, but please don’t criticize me if i save the honor of removing my cover only for the national anthem.

Very well worded.

Give me a break and try to be a better person. I think on a day ( September 11th) a person can try just a little bit harder. It really is not that difficult.
Respectfully Sir….
I would ask that you not tell me to be a “better person” when you have not even met me…
I may not be perfect, but to assume I am am not patriotic or somehow a bad person person because I don’t act or think the way you think I should is just wrong.
My father served in WWII.both my brothers served in the USN,I myself tried to enlist twice during Vietnam ( I was turned down twice for medical reasons).
I have worked hard, raised 2 productive successful daughters. So I see no reason try a little bit harder…..
I try hard enough as it is….
Sweet! A fight and I didnt even start it or (accidently) fan the flames this time. Carry on.
Not only are you still being blamed Mike, but I noticed you didn’t have a flag outside of your home on Memorial Day, Flag Day, the 4th of July and Labor Day. AND you drink imported beer.
What’s up with that?

But then, who am I to judge. I take my lid off and stand attentively, but I don’t place my hand over my heart. I normally clasp my hands behind me and stand straight. Then again, I am not running for president.

Normally we have it flying throughout the summer although I don’t like leaving it out in the rain or winter months.
