We have now been home from our trip to SD for a week. Thanks again to all of you that gave us ides for things to do. Unfortunately our trip didn’t go as smoothly as we would have liked.
On Monday morning right before we were leaving for the 2nd half of our drive to Deadwood, Tyler threw up and spiked a fever of 102.9. After some deliberation, we decided to continue our trip. In the past Tyler has bounced back from this kind of things within a few hours. That wasn’t the case this time. By the time we arrived at the house we rented his fever had gone up to 104.3. Later that evening we ended up in the Lead/Deadwood ER. After numerous tests he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He was given antibiotics and he was feeling better by Tuesday afternoon. We were still able to do many of the things we planned and we had a good time despite the rocky start. We got home Friday evening and Tyler seemed to be better.
As the ER doctor recommended, we followed up with Tyler’s normal doctor on Tuesday evening. At that time, some of the test came back abnormal. Our doctor wanted to consult with others Wednesday morning. We got a call around 10 Wednesday morning and they wanted us to bring Tyler to the ER. We went in and we were admitted around 7:00 Wednesday night. They performed another chest x-ray and the fluid in his lungs had increased dramatically since the original x-ray performed in SD. Due to that and other abnormal tests, the doctors and surgeons decided that Tyler needs to have a chest tube inserted. They are also going to do a procedure to break up some thicker pockets that have formed. We were hoping that the surgery was going to happen this morning but it isn’t scheduled until 1 today. He is a little low on energy but otherwise he doesn’t really seem sick. He is definitely getting bored and sick of all the blood draws, etc. He is also bummed that the trip to Mille Lacs that was planned for Saturday is going to have to be rescheduled.
