Stupid woodpecker

I’ve got a stupid, annoying woodpecker that has decided it would be a good idea to start banging away at the siding of my house right by my bedroom window.

Apparently, woodpeckers don’t like to sleep in like I do, so we’re at a bit of an impasse. He wants to bang his stupid head on my house and I want to bang his head with a baseball bat.

Unfortunately, it seems that Woody’s grandma did some favors to/for someone in Washington DC back in the day and now they’re federally protected.

How do I win this fight?

Hang a piece of sheet metal or the bottom from a tin can over his favorite place to tap on your siding. They don’t like drumming on metal and usually move on.

    Good luck.

Yea, it would be an “unfortunate accident” if he happened to fly through a cloud of 8 shot. But you didn;t hear that from me

I have ceder siding on my house and woodpeckers love it. I would feed them suet about 20 feet from the house. I have stop feeding them so they no longer stop by the house. You don’t say if are feeding them but that is one way to stop them from doing it. – – BUT- – sometimes you just got to do what you got to do.

It would be even more unfortunate if that cloud of 8 shot passed through the big bay window in our bedroom that he likes to sit on.

Not to mention I’m in yuppieville here. I don’t think most of my new neighbors would be too appreciative of the sound of an 870 at 6:30 on a Saturday morning.

Well since they’re protected, perhaps try harassing and scaring him and maybe he’ll go away. It might work if he finds you more annoying than you find him! I’ve read that putting up aluminum flashing or hanging up some netting might be a good deterrent too. I’m not sure how high they spray, but you could try one of those motion-activated sprinklers. Although I’m not certain a woodpecker is necessarily big enough to set one of those off.

Hang a couple Suet Baskets on Nearby Trees, say 50-100′ from your house.

That should get them away, unless of course you got BUGS

The only way I know how to be annoying usually results in my wife rolling over and telling me to shut up and go to sleep.

Will that work for the woodpecker too, or would that be considered harassment of a federally protected species?

You’d be in trouble if the woodpecker has a different reaction than your wife. Here’s what I recommend: Grab two brooms or landing nets, wear a brightly colored shirt, perhaps one of your wife’s most fashionable-looking hats, and run around in circles while barking and hissing at the woodpecker. If anything, it would make for a good show.

Same issue here……did some of the tricks mentioned above…. . Actually, the best thing I ever did was put up suet feeders about 20 feet from my house, right in front of my kitchen window! They have food, and never bother the house anymore….If ya can’t kil….I mean beat em, join em!!! For what it’s worth, mine were the little black and white downy woodpeckers.

Not sure flashing works. We had one at the brothers cabin who would bang on the ventilation pipes on the top of the cabin every morning.

Had one actually living inside the cedar siding. Darn thing pecked hole right through it. Tried the owl. No it didn’t work. Tried throwing rocks at it that didn’t work either. I hear they like the bugs in the cedar. Sided the house he is finally gone. He was like an alarm clock on Saturday mornings. I hated Woody.

If rubber snakes don’t work, go for one of those new
cat decoys for coyotes and eagles.

This doesn’t work at all, some peckers are looking for grubs, others bang away on whatever makes the most noise, they establish their territory or attract the females. There’s a little pecker who loves to bang on our metal roof up der nort!

If rubber snakes don’t work, a REAL snake would probably deter ol’ Woody for ya … with the added benefit of keeping the yard mole-free

This is probably true most of the time, but I remember one fishing opener when some crazy woodpecker found it funny to peck on the wood stove chimney at 5 am.

That is how I got rid of our annoying woodpecker. Owl decoy worked great for me.

Like I said “usually” it works. And by the way, they’re “drumming” to communicate with other woodpeckers and not looking for grubs in your siding. If you had grubs in your siding that would be a lot bigger problem than a bit of tap, tap, tap…..tap, tap, tap, tapping.

Now that is something worth trying. I might get a second one to hang above the front door.

“I installed the Attack Spider the day it arrived, and the Woodpecker has been scared away within a couple seconds of landing on the siding. No more pecking holes in our house. I’m sure he’s now off telling all the other woodpeckers of the “”GIANT” spider that nearly got him the other day. This thing is FANTASTIC. It reacts quickly to any disturbance and would probably scare any animal or bird away….”

I would be cooking for myself as the FW would be staying at a motel….again.
