Haven’t been up there in many years. We used to go up the English river to Talking Falls then portage over and fish Ken lake and below Downhill and Sowden lakes. They have a cabin on a little island by the Falls. Always caught lots of fish but not much for size.

Used to go to Cozy, but now go to Sturgeon Lake Lodge, however we have/and still fish lakes in the area. We just came back from a trip and fished Watcomb, Wintering, and Lake of Bays with great success. Nothing big, but lots of eaters. We have been fishing the area for 30+ years. If you are going down/up river from Cozy be careful. The water appears to be down a bit and there are some nasty rocks that you can hit if you are not careful. We’ve fished Ken Lake, Frank Lake, the falls below Sowden, Pike Point, the mouth of Barrel, and the top side of Press Lake falls on both sides. There are fish (walleyes and notherns) in all these places.

I’ve caught some really nice pike up on the north end of Lake of Bays. We used to camp on the causeway a number of years ago. That’s a big block of Crown land & only one cabin on the lake if I remember. We used to drive in off of 642 all the way to the causeway. The good old days.

I will be in Ignace next week fishing not sure if I will get to Barrel this trip. I have fished Barrel 4-5 different times. Lots of Walleyes most in the 14 – 18 in range but we have got them up to 28. Some real nice small mouth in there also. Not sure about the northern fishing as we never fish them. We mostly fish the other end of the lake from where the river comes in as that is where the ramp is. Minnows and jigs in 25 ft should get you walleyes this time of year.

There is a nice shore lunch spot on one of the big islands in the middle of the lake.

    Good luck

My brother and I were there last june. Walleye were small and the fishing was “just OK” the Smallies were just gone and we fished hard for them. Nice people running it now but we will find a different place to try this year.
