You could check out the many campsite on the river banks just north of Taylors falls on the st croix. Dont have much info about these sites as it was our 1st time up there last weekend. Launched on the mn side just north of Taylors falls. Plenty deep water for miles up river. Didnt get shallow until we got to wild river state park. Camp sites look like 1st come 1st serve. They are well marked, have fire rings, biffies, tent pads and all are right on the river bank. Not sure who manages them.

Mike is right there are many sites on the river. It’s some sort of government deal. No jet ski’s, speed boats, ect. allowed in that part of the river. If you try it launch on the Wisconsin side north of St. Croix Falls at the Lions park. Nice launch there. They have a donation box on a pole for launching.

    Don’t overlook the Smallmouth fishing.

My wife and I camped on the Mississippi just north of Alma last weekend, river side camping, price was right – free. Town near by for breakfast lunch or supper or cocktail or any combo of those. Fishing from shore, camp fire. The only negative is I got a little poison oak. Oh and the big blue gils were hitting on top of the wing dams. I am guessing you have a boat?

I am looking more for a campground that sets on a lake. Maybe someplace where I have to take a boat to get to a campsite. I am open to wisconsin also. I am just having a hard time finding a place, I think a recommendation would help a little

This might not be as remote as you’re looking for but it has great camp sites and great fishing at times. Carlos is connected to a number of other lakes too. You can tour the chain of lakes with the wife and get a bite to eat at one of the restaurants right on the waters edge. Or if you want it peaceful stay on Carlos by the state park and you won’t see many people at all. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Might be farther than you want to drive, but we camp just into the UP near Presque Isle, WI. Pomeroy Lake, it has a federal campground with outhouses and a pump well, decent boat landing. Fish Walleyes out in front of the only house on the lake, there is a rock hump about 75 yards off shore. Also watch out for a large rock hump just off the SW shoreline, it will take your lower unit off!!!!

The hump is just off the point in this picture, if you zoom in it looks like there are 2 markers on it, it’s actually 2 boats that are close to it.

There is also a house on the island. Good fishing for Gills, Perch, Walleye, Crappies.

The roads are gravel and it can be a little tricky getting in there, GPS helps.
